Infatti Giuseppina e Carmela Gambardella, proprietarie
dell’Hotel Santa Caterina di Amalfi, sono state
premiate proprio per aver continuato la tradizione
familiare di un’icona dell’accoglienza. E non è un
caso se al Santa Caterina lo stile è sinonimo di tradizione
e di ospitalità da sempre. Sin dal 1904,
anno in cui fu fondato dalla famiglia Gambardella,
che lo gestisce ancora oggi, l’Hotel è costituito da
una bellissima villa liberty a picco sul mare, inserita
con delle dépendances in un rigoglioso parco a terrazze,
ricco di fiori e buganville, aranceti e limonaie,
a pochissima distanza dal centro di Amalfi.
Da allora l’impegno costante della proprietà, oltre a
preservare la tradizione, è il rinnovamento della
struttura, che anno dopo anno è divenuta sempre
più bella, conservando intatta l’incantevole atmosfera
originale. Nell’interior design spiccano alcuni elementi
che contribuiscono a crearne lo stile
inconfondibile: i pavimenti di maiolica di Vietri
dipinta a mano, i pezzi di antiquariato, per la maggior
parte primo Novecento, provenienti dalle proprietà
di famiglia, gli spazi luminosi. Molte camere
hanno balcone, terrazzo o giardino con vista sull’incantevole
scenario della Costiera.
In fact, Josephine and Carmela Gambardella – the
Hotel Santa Caterina owners - were honored just to
have continued the family tradition of an hospitality
icon. It is no coincidence that the Santa Caterina
has been synonymous with style and tradition of
hospitality all along. Since 1904, when it was
founded by Gambardella’s family, the hotel has been
consisted of a beautiful art nouveau villa overlooking
the sea, set in a flourishing terraced park with
outbuildings, full of flowers and bougainvillea,
orange and lemon groves, very close to the Amalfi
city center.
Since then, the continued commitment of the management
- in addition to the tradition preservation
– has been renovating the structure, which has
become more and more beautiful year after year,
keeping the charming original atmosphere intact.
Outstanding interior design elements that help creating
the unique style: the floors are tiled with Vietri
hand-painted tiles, antiques from the family estate
mostly from the early twentieth century, the brightly
lit spaces. Many rooms have a balcony, a terrace
or a garden overlooking the enchanting scenery of
the Amalfi Coast.
