Scoprii che a Pesaro esisteva una Fondazione Rossini, che pubblicava
il Bollettino del Centro Rossiniano di Studi, periodico di
carattere musicologico, la quale proprio in quegli anni aveva
iniziato a preparare l’edizione critica di tutte le opere di
Rossini. E intanto, come se ciò non fosse bastato, ecco arrivare
nel 1980 un Festival che, caso più unico che raro nel mondo
musicale internazionale, metteva in pratica l’attività scientifica
della Fondazione, curando la rappresentazione teatrale delle
edizioni critiche.
Il mio entusiasmo era alle stelle! Un Festival interamente dedicato
al mio idolo. Mi sembrava di sognare! Da quel lontano
1980 ad oggi, ho seguito con passione tutti gli eventi di quello
che fin dall’inizio si è affermato come uno dei Festival più
importanti d’Europa. Ricordo ancora con emozione, tra i tanti
capolavori rossiniani dimenticati e restituiti al mondo musicale
(tre titoli fra tutti: Ermione, Maometto II e Zelmira), il recupero
della partitura del Viaggio a Reims, scomparsa nel nulla,
creduta perduta e senza alcuna speranza di essere ritrovata: uno
degli eventi musicali più importanti del secolo!

Festival 2011 - Pesaro.
I found that there was a Rossini Foundation in
Pesaro, which published the Bulletin of the Center
for Rossini’s Studies – a musicological style periodical
- which in those years had just begun to prepare a
critical edition of all the Rossini’s operas.
Meanwhile, as if this were not enough, here came a
festival in 1980 that was putting into practice the
scientific activities of the Foundation, taking care of
critical editions of the opera, becoming a unique
event on the international music scene.
My enthusiasm was so high! A festival dedicated to
my idol: it seemed to dream! From 1980 until
today, I followed all the events with passion, especially
since it has emerged as one of the most important
festival in Europe. I still remember the recovery
of the score of Viaggio a Reims with vivid emotion,
among many masterpieces Rossini’s forgotten and
returned to the musical world - three titles over all:
Hermione, Mohammed II and Zelmira – that render
the musical event one of the most important of the
century!
Now, after many years of breakthroughs and discoveries,
little remains of yet unknown. However this
year the Rossini Opera Festival has a respectable
program in spite of the crisis.
