SUMMARY<br />

Sympetrum pe<strong>de</strong>montanum, an eastern orig<strong>in</strong>at<strong>in</strong>g species, disappeared <strong>in</strong> the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of this century from North-western<br />

Europe, but expan<strong>de</strong>d aga<strong>in</strong> after 1953. The first observations <strong>in</strong> Belgium were ma<strong>de</strong> <strong>in</strong> the early 80’s and observations<br />

<strong>in</strong>creased ever s<strong>in</strong>ce. Sympetrum pe<strong>de</strong>montanum has without doubt expan<strong>de</strong>d to the north-west s<strong>in</strong>ce the 1990’s. On<br />

14/09/2002 and the follow<strong>in</strong>g days at least three males were spotted <strong>in</strong> the reserve. One captured male turned out to be fully<br />

adult. Probably they were part of a bigger number of <strong>in</strong>dividuals that entered our region look<strong>in</strong>g for suitable habitats.<br />
