Mit einer ebenso anmutigen wie schwungvollen Bewegung
fängt die von Alfred Otto König 1914 entworfene Figur einer
„Japanerin mit Fächer“ die Aufmerksamkeit des Betrachters
ein. Die authentische Formensprache und die feine Zeichnung
eines Paradiesvogels auf dem Kimono der Figur lassen neben
der hohen Handwerkskunst der Meissener Künstler die damalige
Sehnsucht nach einer Reise in das Land der aufgehenden
Sonne erahnen. Alfred Otto König trat 1897 als Modelleur in
die Manufaktur ein und gehörte in der Zeit des Jugendstils zu
den wichtigsten Entwerfern von Kostümfiguren.

This figurine of a “Japanese lady with a fan”, designed by
Alfred König in 1914, catches the beholder’s attention with
a movement that is both elegant and spirited. The authentic
formal vocabulary and the delicate drawing of bird of paradise
on the lady’s kimono are not only examples of the extraordinary
craftsmanship of Meissen’s artists, but it also points
to the longing at the time to go on a journey to the land of the
rising sun. Alfred Otto König joined the manufactory in 1897,
and in the Jugendstil era, he was one of the most important
designers of costumed figurines.
