Ein Werk der Neuzeit, das aus der reichen Tradition von
MEISSEN ® schöpft: Die „Japanerin“ von Alfred König, 1913-
1914 entstanden, lieferte Jörg Danielczyk die Vorlage für sein
gleichnamiges Werk aus dem Jahr 2012. Musste sich Königs
Original mit 16,5 Zentimetern Höhe begnügen, schuf Danielczyk
aus ihr eine eindrucksvolle Großplastik mit beachtlichen
86 Zentimetern Höhe. Im vollen Format kommen so die
vornehme Anmut der Geisha ganz zur Geltung.
Geishas hatten in Japan ihre Blütezeit im 18. und 19.
Jahrhundert, ihr Erbe wird aber noch heute gepfl egt, auch
wenn ihre Dienste teuer und exklusiv sind. Sie beherrschen
verschiedene traditionelle Künste und werden in kultivierten
Kreisen zu gesellschaftlichen Anlässen – wie beispielsweise
zur Teezeremonie – als Gastgeber und Unterhaltungskünstler
geladen, wo sie Shamisen (eine Laute) oder Hayashi-Flöte
spielen, singen, tanzen, und zur Konversation beitragen.

The “Japanese Woman” modelled by Alfred König in
1913-1914, a modernist work that nevertheless taps the rich
MEISSEN ® tradition, served Jörg Danielczyk as the source
for a work of the same name he produced in 2012. Where
König’s original had to make do with a height of 16.5 centimetres,
however, Danielczyk turned her into an impressive
large-format sculpture no less than 86 centimetres high, a size
that allows the geisha’s polished grace to unfold to the full.
Geisha girls had their heyday in 18th and 19th-century
Japan, though their legacy is still upheld today in a service that
is both pricy and exclusive. They practise several traditional
arts and, in cultivated circles, are invited as hostesses and
entertainers to social events such as the tea ceremony, where
they sing, dance, play the samisen (a three-stringed lute) or
hayashi fl ute and make conversation.
