Integrated Topology Processing: Incremental Topology Processing Incremental Topology Processing is a technique used to update the Consolidated Representation of the system in a very fast manner. It is particularly useful during Contingency Analysis, where it does the following: Consolidate entire case For each contingency do End Apply switching device actions and identify subnets with changed topology Expand affected subnets to full-topology detail Reconsolidate affected subnets with post-contingency topology Solve post-contingency power flow Determine and store limit violations Reset affected subnets to pre-contingency topology Restore pre-contingency power system state Deconsolidate entire case Incremental Topology Processing is very fast, taking on the order of a few milliseconds. ©2011 PowerWorld Corporation 1506
Integrated Topology Processing: Topology Processing in Applications Simulator applications such as ATC and OPF use a hierarchical scheme where Consolidation takes place only at the beginning of the numerical solution process. Consolidation in lower functions takes place only if it has not taken place already in higher-level functions. Following completion of the application, de-consolidation occurs in the function level in which the consolidation originally occurred. This process is very similar to the one described for solving the power flow using integrated topology processing. There can be some exceptions to this when using Contingency Analysis. The Contingency Analysis Using Integrated Topology Processing topic provides more details on this. Once the input data is set in the Full-Topology Model fields, the applications work in the same manner as with regular Planning Cases. ©2011 PowerWorld Corporation 1507
