Differential locks
You will find information about off-road
driving in the "Operation" section
( page 269).
The differential locks improve the traction
of the vehicle. Engage the differential
locks:
on rough terrain
to deactivate ABS and ESP on off-road
terrain
when fording
when driving on snowy, icy or muddy
surfaces
!
Do not engage the front-axle differential
lock on tight bends. The steering
capability of the vehicle is otherwise
severely restricted.
!
Only accelerate moderately when pulling
away with the differential locks engaged.
To prevent damage to the transfer
case, never operate the vehicle on a
roller dynamometer (single axle roller
dynamometer) unless:
the non-driven axle is jacked up
or
the relevant propeller shaft is disconnected
and
the transfer case differential lock is
engaged
Controls in detail
Differential locks
Risk of accident G
Do not drive on firm road surfaces with the
differential locks engaged. Steering capability
is severely restricted when the front axle
differential lock is engaged, thus increasing
the risk of an accident.
ESP, BAS and ABS are automatically deactivated
when you select a differential lock.
