Jump-starting
Jump-starting i
If your vehicle's battery is discharged, the
engine can be started from another vehicle
using jump leads.
Observe the following points:
Jump-starting must only be performed
when the engine and catalytic converter
are cold.
Do not start the engine if the battery
has frozen. Let the battery thaw first.
Only use batteries with the same nominal
voltage for jump-starting.
Only use jump leads that are protected
against polarity reversal and which
have an adequate cross-section and insulated
battery terminal clamps.
You can obtain jump leads with polarity
reversal protection, e.g. from any
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

Only jump-start the battery in the engine
compartment.
Avoid repeated and lengthy starting attempts.
Never start the vehicle using a rapid
battery charger.
Risk of acid burns G
Do not lean over the battery while the engine
is being jump-started.

Avoid creating sparks. Keep naked flames
away from the battery and do not smoke.
Comply with safety precautions and special
protective measures when handling the battery
( page 372).
Make sure that the two vehicles do not
touch.
Apply the parking brake and move the
selector lever to P.
Switch all electrical consumers off.
