Practical advice<br />

Battery<br />

Switch off the engine and remove the<br />

key before you loosen or disconnect<br />

the terminal clamps. You may otherwise<br />

destroy electronic components<br />

such as the alternator.<br />

Have the starter battery checked and,<br />

if necessary, replaced every two years<br />

or 20,000 km at a qualified specialist<br />

workshop, e.g. a <strong>Mercedes</strong>-Benz Service<br />

Centre.<br />

If your vehicle is fitted with TeleAid*,<br />

you must set the telephone to service<br />

mode ( page 237).<br />

Your vehicle is fitted with one battery. It is<br />

located under a cover in the rear footwell.<br />

Disconnecting the battery<br />

When the battery is disconnected:<br />

you do not have any brake boosting effect.<br />

You will require more effort to<br />

brake and the brake pedal travel will be<br />

longer. If necessary, you will have to depress<br />

the brake pedal with maximum<br />

force<br />

you cannot turn the ignition key<br />

the selector lever is locked in position P<br />

!<br />

Always disconnect the battery in the<br />

order described below. You could otherwise<br />

damage the vehicle electronics.<br />

Nur fuer internen Gebrauch<br />

Apply the parking brake and move the<br />

selector lever to P.<br />

Switch all electrical consumers off.<br />

Turn the key to position 0 and remove<br />

it.<br />

Loosen the negative terminal clamp<br />

and remove it.<br />

The terminal clamp must no longer be<br />

touching the terminal.<br />

Remove the cover from the positive terminal.<br />

Loosen the positive terminal clamp and<br />

remove it.<br />

Remove the breather hose from the<br />

battery.
