Operating system<br />

You can use the operating system to<br />

look up information on your vehicle and<br />

make adjustments. For these purposes,<br />

information is displayed in the<br />

->multi-function display, and the buttons<br />

on the ->multi-function steering<br />

wheel control the operating system display<br />

and settings.<br />

Overrevving range<br />

Speeds in the red area of the rev counter<br />

at which the engine can only operate<br />

for a short period.<br />

Overrun mode<br />

Passive acceleration of the vehicle, e.g.<br />

when driving down a mountain.<br />

Parking brake<br />

Secures the vehicle against rolling<br />

away when parking.<br />

Partial load operation<br />

Operating state of the engine in which<br />

only part of the maximum power or<br />

maximum torque is used, e.g. in ->overrun<br />

mode.<br />

RDS<br />

(Radio-Data-System)<br />

Signals transmitted by radio broadcasters<br />

giving traffic reports which are then<br />

processed by, e.g. ->COMAND*, for dynamic<br />

route guidance.<br />

Rearward-facing child seat<br />

Special restraint system for children up<br />

to 9 months old or weighing up 10 kg.<br />

The rearward-facing child seat is<br />

mounted on the front-passenger seat<br />

facing away from the direction of travel.<br />

The front-passenger seat sensor<br />

system prevents the front-passenger<br />

airbag from being released when a<br />

rearward-facing seat with ->automatic<br />

child seat recognition is fitted.<br />

Restraint systems<br />

Seat belts, belt tensioners, airbags and<br />

child restraint systems. As independent<br />

systems, their protective functions<br />

complement one another.
