SEMINAR IN READING: INSTITUTIONAL CAPACITY FOR ADAPTATION TO<br />

CLIMATE CHANGE – SYNERGIES, GAPS, CONFLICTS AND INCENTIVES<br />

On 18 November 2008 the Royal Commission hosted a seminar at the Innovation Centre in Reading <strong>to</strong><br />

gather views from interested parties relevant <strong>to</strong> deciding the scope of the adaptation study. The seminar<br />

involved around 50 participants, including officials from UK governments, academics and researchers,<br />

and representatives from non-governmental organisations and industry.<br />

Participants worked in small groups <strong>to</strong> identify a range of issues relating <strong>to</strong> the three chosen exemplar<br />

areas (biodiversity, nature conservation and protected areas; sea level and coastal zones; freshwater)<br />

and then explored the roles of institutional ac<strong>to</strong>rs within these areas in greater detail.<br />
