WORKSHOP IN LONDON: HELPING TO DELIVER CLIMATE CHANGE<br />

ADAPTATION THROUGH THE UK PLANNING SYSTEM<br />

On the 28 July 2009 the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) organised a joint workshop<br />

with the Commission. The workshop was held <strong>to</strong> inform the TCPA study on the delivery of climate<br />

change adaptation through the UK planning system. This study was commissioned by the Royal<br />

Commission <strong>to</strong> inform this report on adapting institutions <strong>to</strong> climate change.<br />

The workshop was attended by more than 40 people including Members of the Commission, Secretariat<br />

and TCPA staff. Guests were invited from the built environment and environmental sec<strong>to</strong>rs, with a<br />

particular focus on planning professionals and those with experience and knowledge of the planning<br />

process. Participants represented government departments, agencies, local authorities, non-governmental<br />

organisations, community groups, universities, consultancies and professional bodies and industries<br />

from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.<br />

A report of the seminar and the TCPA’s report Helping <strong>to</strong> Deliver <strong>Climate</strong> <strong>Change</strong> Adaptation through the<br />
