centuries, when true believers were separating themselves from the false Church; indeed,<br />

until the Papacy came into existence. This, as we have seen, was the period covered by what is<br />

symbolized by the woman's flight into the wilderness. <strong>The</strong> separation <strong>of</strong> true believers<br />

covered this long period, and history records the fact that there was not a single body <strong>of</strong><br />

evangelical <strong>Christ</strong>ians that withdrew from the nationalized church, or rejected its false<br />

doctrines and pr<strong>of</strong>essed a Scriptural faith, and <strong>of</strong>fered a pure worship, and testified<br />

against the errors, but what was assailed by both the civil and religious rulers <strong>of</strong> this long<br />

period.<br />

<strong>The</strong> phrase, "which keep the commandments <strong>of</strong> God, and have the testimony <strong>of</strong> <strong>Jesus</strong><br />

<strong>Christ</strong>," fittingly describes true <strong>Christ</strong>ians, who faithfully served God, and bore testimony<br />

to the true Gospel, even to becoming martyrs to <strong>Christ</strong>'s cause.<br />
