INTRODUCTION TO THE SECOND
EDITION
IN this edition, the Supplement has been rewritten and con-
siderably enlarged, and, to increase the usefulness of the Diction-
ary, a new Supplement of English-Spanish-Portuguese Terms
has been added. This has been made as concise as possible, in
order to keep the work within reasonable limits. Thus the
common names of the ordinary ores are not included therein, but
will be found in the body of the work under the Spanish name of
the metal to which they may belong e.g. copper pyrites will be
found u. cobre (2) (copper ore) or u. pirita (pyrites) ; ruby silver
u. plata (2) (silver ore). Compound terms will be found under
the second or key-word e.g. plunger-pump and sinking-pump u.
bomba (1) (pump); bearing-frame, u. cuadro (1) (frame); blast-
furnace, u. horno (2) (furnace) ; main-level, u. galer a (1) (level) ;
stamp-mill, edge-mill and drag-mill, u. molino (1) (mill), and so
forth.
The cross-references in the body of the work will be found very
useful in this connection.
