OROYA, Span. Am. hanging- basket or sling for carrying passengers<br />

and goods over rope-bridges ; it is generally made <strong>of</strong> leather (Velazquez),<br />

see u. puente (1), tarabita.<br />

OSARIOS, Ant. Col. Indian remains found in clay vases, etc., comp. guaca.<br />

OTERO, top. isolated hill in a plain, comp. cerro (1).<br />

OTORGADO, grantee.<br />

OTORGANTE, grantor.<br />

OTORGAR, leg. to declare, execute, grant.<br />

OURO, Port, gold, syn. oiro ; o. amoedado, coined gold ; o. em po, gold<br />

dust ; o. lavado, wrought gold ; o. preto, Braz. black gold or gold<br />

discoloured by ferric oxide, see oro negro u. oro.<br />

OYAMEL, OYAMETL, Mex. white pine (Chism), syn. abeto it is the chief<br />

wood used for timbering in the mines <strong>of</strong> Pachuca ; abeto comun =<br />

Norway fir ; abeto de California = Douglas pine (Ponce de Leon).<br />

OYE ! (O-O-O-O-YE !), Mex. word used to call attention in a hoisting-<br />

shaft up to 200 feet deep, comp. bueno !<br />

PABELL6N, p. de entrada, vent, large chamber leading to the inner<br />

PACA (from Engl. pack), com. bale, pack, package.<br />

PACHAMANCA, horno (2) de p., Peru, a small reverberatory furnace,<br />

<strong>of</strong> ancient origin, with a shallow basin like that <strong>of</strong> a cupelling-furnace<br />

(O. F. Pfordte), see u. senorial.<br />

PACHAPAMPA, Hualgayoc, Peru, ore picked out <strong>of</strong> the waste, the size<br />

<strong>of</strong> a walnut, see granado (3) and nuzco.<br />

PACOS, (1) Peru, silver ores, with oxide <strong>of</strong> iron, generally <strong>of</strong> a reddish<br />

colour ; red ores, rich in oxides, which take the name <strong>of</strong> llampos, if<br />

they are earthy, and pedernales,<br />

limonites. Minerais calidos, chlorures, bromures, iodures et<br />

antimoniures.<br />

PAVONADOS. Minerais frios. Sulfures et rosiclers.<br />

In certain districts <strong>of</strong> Peru paco occurs in limestone, and is rich in<br />

oxide <strong>of</strong> iron and silver, mixed with raw sulphide low in silver it fluxes<br />

the ore and furnishes silver for the matte (R. T. Mason) ;<br />
