TARANGUELA, (1) see balsa (3) ; (2) see tarango.
TAREA, (1) task, syn. tajo (9) ; shift ; day-work, see jornal (1), tanda
(1), tequio (5) ; (2) a certain quantity of wood for fuel, e.g.,
in Venez.
1 tarea or cord is 5| feet long by 5| feet high by 33 inches wide (G. P.
Ashmore and C. Seale) ; a certain quantity of ore set as a task, e.g.,
in Tasco, Mex. = 4 montones of 100 quintales (Humboldt), at Guadal-
cazar = 4 sacks, see tequio (3) ;
a certain number of journeys made
in carrying ore, etc., see talla (3) ; (3) Ant. Col. in the Remedies and
other districts, all hands were formerly fed by the companies; on
Sundays and feast days those who wished to earn rations (raciones)
for the day had to work up to 10 A.M. (" tarea "), otherwise they
forfeited them. This custom still exists in some mines.

TASCO, (1) hards or refuse of flax, wool or hemp (agramiza), used for
packing ; (2) cupel or crucible, see crisol ( 1 ), copela ( 1 ), tasconio.
TASCONIO, a kind of argillaceous earth of which crucibles [crisoles (1)]

are made, syn. talque. The crucibles used for this purpose are made
of '
tasconium,' a white earth similar to potter's clay in appearance,"
(Pliny, Hist. Nat. 1. 33, c. 21).
TASES, Mex. masses of ore which have been calcined in the open air or
in heaps, syn. caleras (4), comp. monton (1).
TAZA (cup or wooden bowl), Mex. (1) central cup or bowl of the tahona
or arrastre (3), 9 feet in diameter by 1 foot deep, paved with unhewn
slabs of porphyry (G. F. Lyon) ; (2) crucible of blast-furnace (Dwight),
see crisol (2).
TECACOLOTE, Guerr. Mex. aluminous slate (pizarra alumbrosa) from
Aztec word meaning crow-stone (S. Ramirez).
TECALE, TECALI, Mexican marble or Mexican onyx found in the
district of Tecali, Pueblo ; it is a var. of lime alabaster from Aztec
teocah (Lord's mansion), a name given by the Indians to their temple,
syn. marmol mexicano, onix mexicano.
TECHAR, to roof, to cover with a roof (techo).
TECHEO, see u. testera (3).
TECHICHIL, Guerr. Mex. a ferruginous compound noxious in the patio
process ; esmeril (2) is another bad ferruginous compound, also
lechecilla, which is calcareous (S. Ramirez).
TECHO (roof), (1) hanging- wall or roof of a deposit, see alta (1) ;
(2) roof of a level or gallery, syn. Peru, alza (2), cielo (1), comp.
costado, piso (4) ; (4) back of a stope, see techumbre, u. testero (3).
