Scott). Ety. From two Tupi Indian words, jacu, bird, and tinga,
white the game bird of Brazil, corresponding to the American quail,
is black with white specks, and is called jacutinga (A. M. Gibson).

JAGUA, Col. (1) a fine powder, of heterogeneous composition, but

hence = black sand, comp. congo (1) ; (3) jaguas, mech. prep, concen-
trates, chiefly pyritic, and more or less rich in gold ; jaguas de recorte,
residues in separating the gold from the concentrates, these are usually
ground in an arrastre (3), producing moles (2), see podrir jaguas, comp.
charquiera, marmajas (2).

jagua (2), after washing and before the final separation [see cortar (1)].
