OCONAL, Peru, swampy pasture-land, comp. pantano.<br />

OCOTE, (1) Mex. a very resinous kind <strong>of</strong> pine, used for lighting furnaces,<br />

etc. ; (2) Span. Am. name generally given to a kind <strong>of</strong> laurel used for<br />

timbering.<br />

to rope <strong>of</strong> a hand-winch, when used for raising or lowering men, etc.<br />

OJO (eye), (1) bunch or small spot <strong>of</strong> ore in a lode, small irregular deposit,<br />

equiv. Port, olho (2), see clavo (2) ; o. de polvillo, spot <strong>of</strong> rich ore ;<br />

(2) o. de agua, spring that spouts in a plain (Acad.), see manantial ;<br />
