GALE6N, a galleon or armed Spanish ship, from 400 to 700 tons burden,
that used to carry silver, etc. from New Spain (Antillas) to Cadiz.

GALGAS, (1) the uprights (pies derechos) supporting the barrel [arbol (2)]
of a windlass, see torno (2) ; some consist of two inclined timbers, the
upper parts of which rest on the walls of the excavation (Acad.) ;
(2) torno de g., see u. torno (2).
GALIBO, rail, iron rule [cercho (1)], in the form of an inverted U, used
for ascertaining if wagons, with their maximum load, can pass through
tunnels, etc. (Acad.).
GALLEO, met. inequalities formed in the surface of certain metals
when cooled rapidly, after melting, when, the crust breaking, the
interior mass escapes (Acad.), see gallo (4).
