6. <strong>System</strong> Requirements<br />

RFID reader & tag specifications & fitment<br />

6.1. Each Loco unit shall have an RFID reader fitted underneath the locomotive<br />

body <strong>for</strong> reading the in<strong>for</strong>mation from RFID tags fitted on the track, connected<br />

to MIE on RS 485 port.<br />

6.2. The RFID reader shall be as per following technical specifications:<br />

a. Suitable to be fitted underneath Locomotive body & shall be rugged enough<br />

to withstand vibrations.<br />

b. Suitable <strong>for</strong> reliable working at Locomotive speed upto 160 KMPH.<br />

c. Frequency <strong>of</strong> operation – 865-867 MHz<br />

d. Meeting EN 50121 or equivalent standard <strong>for</strong> EMI/ EMC.<br />

e. Communication Protocol – EPCGEN2-ISO-1800-6C<br />

f. Shall have minimum IP 65 protection.<br />

g. Other requirements like environmental, climatic etc. as per RDSO/ SPN/144.<br />

h. Under field operating conditions, RFID reader shall be able to read RFID tag<br />

from a vertical distance <strong>of</strong> minimum 3 meters.<br />

6.3. The RFID tags shall be fitted on the sleepers between the rails as per drawing<br />

in Annexure-VIII.<br />

6.4. RFID tag shall be as per following specifications:<br />

a. Suitable <strong>for</strong> reliable working at RFID reader speed upto 160 KMPH.<br />

b. Frequency <strong>of</strong> operation – 865-867 MHz<br />

c. One time programmable with user programmable area <strong>of</strong> minimum 144bits.<br />

d. Shall be able to work even when submerged in water.<br />

e. Meeting EN 50121 or equivalent standard <strong>for</strong> EMI/ EMC<br />

f. Communication Protocol – EPCGEN2-ISO-1800-6C/D<br />

g. Shall have minimum IP 68 protection.<br />

h. Other requirements like environmental, climatic etc. as per RDSO/ SPN/144.<br />

i. Under field operating conditions RFID reader shall be able to read RFID tag<br />

from a vertical distance <strong>of</strong> minimum 3 meters.<br />

6.5. RFID tags shall be provided at following locations:<br />

6.5.1. At not more than one kilometer on straight track (track without any points<br />

taking <strong>of</strong>f from it).<br />

6.5.2. At both side fouling marks <strong>of</strong> a turnout.<br />

6.5.3. at the Block entry i.e. at the foot <strong>of</strong> the Last Stop Signals <strong>of</strong> the station <strong>for</strong><br />

each block section.<br />

6.5.4. at the Station entry i.e. at the end <strong>of</strong> the block overlap at the station <strong>for</strong> each<br />

block section.<br />

6.5.5. at the foot <strong>of</strong> the signal.<br />

6.5.6. At the end <strong>of</strong> TCAS territory<br />

6.6. RFID tags shall be one-time programmable & shall be programmed with<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation in following pattern:<br />

6.6.1. Track Identification Number (TIN) in Nominal Direction– 6 bits<br />

6.6.2. Track Identification Number (TIN) in Reverse Direction– 6 bits<br />

6.6.3. Absolute location in meters – 22 bits<br />

6.6.4. Distance to next RFID tags in Nominal Direction in meters – 14 bits<br />

6.6.5. Distance to next RFID tags in Reverse Direction in meters – 14 bits<br />

6.6.6. Signal id – 8 bits<br />

6.6.7. Unique ID <strong>of</strong> RFID Tag Set in Zone – 10 bits<br />

6.6.8. Following Location based conditions are to be mapped as under:<br />
