George T^'ler Bigelow, Cliief Justice <strong>of</strong> the Supreme<br />

Court <strong>of</strong> <strong>Massachusetts</strong>, born in Watertown,<br />

October 6, 1810, died in Boston, April B, 1878.<br />

He was the son <strong>of</strong> Tyler Bigelow, an eminent lawyer<br />

<strong>of</strong> Watertown, graduated at Harvard College in<br />

1839, and was admitted to the bar in 1834. From<br />

1840 to 1848 he served in the state legislature;<br />

was appointed a judge <strong>of</strong> the Court <strong>of</strong> Common<br />
