INFORMATION IN DIGITAL EPOCH

ABSTRACT
The web explorers are developed to scavenge a simulated information system- the Internet for useful
information. As Library and Information Science professional we ought to be aware of invisible web tools, which
in turn help to save the time and access to quality of information in short time. Search engine is an information
retrieval system designed to help find to find information stored on computer system, such as the World Wide
Web. Search engines use regularly updated indexes to operate quickly and efficiently. The paper articulates on
leading search engines such as E-books search engines, E-Journals search engines, ETD search engine, RSS
Search Engines; web blogs search engines and Semantic Web Search engines.

INTRODUCTION:
Searching is one of the most used actions on the Internet. Search engines as an
instrument of searching, are very popular and frequently used sites. This is the reason why
webmasters and every ordinary user on the Internet, must have good knowledge about search
engines and searching. Search engines are special tools that anyone can use. They are a
database of web sites that contain information that is catalogued and indexed for easy
reference. The secret of effective searching in knowing how to state what you want to search
for. The latest arrivals of search engines are, E-books search engines, E-Journals search
engines, ETD search engine, RSS Search Engines, web blogs search engines and Semantic
Web Search engines.
WEB DEFINITION OF SEARCH ENGINE:
Internet search engines (e.g. Google, AltaVista) help users find web pages on a given
subject. The search engines maintain databases of web sites and use programs (often referred to
as "spiders" or "robots") to collect information, which is then indexed by the search engine.
