The ontology server serves two ontologies EHRComponent and EHRSemantics. When an
event is triggered some part of the EHR component needs to be consumed. The relevant EHR
component is fetched through appropriate service that is semantically located through
EHRComponent ontology. EHRSemantics ontology is developed for each standard. When
applications of different standards interact runtime ontology to ontology mapping is done by
MAFRA – ontology MApping FRAmework toolkit [4].

In a typical scenario when an application compliant with HL7 requests EHR component from
another application compliant with CEN certain elements of both the standards reflect the same
meaning but use different identifiers. To map this difference MAFRA is used to provide
ontology to ontology mapping.
