7.2.7 Scanning After the Manuscripts are dried, they are scanned serially page by page or combination of pages using a SONY Cyber-Shot [DSC-W300] Digital Camera with 13 Mega Pixel capacity. Scanning process The Camera is fixed to a Tripod focused with Bulbs of 100 watts each on the image to be digitized. The Manuscripts are arranged on the platform kept on the floor and size of the images is fixed in the Camera. Then the images are captured. 7.2.8 Storing Captured images are limited to the size of the memory card of the Camera. The memory card being used is of 8GB capacity. When the memory card is full, the images are being transferred to HP Compaq Computer with 45 GB Hard Disk using USB data cable. 7.2.9 Naming After storing the images, the Manuscripts are suitably named. Example is given below. Naming 7.2.10 Editing and Cropping There are possibilities of getting unwanted marks, lines, etc., on and off the scanned images. Hence, editing and cropping of the images are 2 important tasks. This activity gives clear image of the Manuscript.
Before Editing & Cropping After Editing & Cropping 7.2.11 Merging After the above work, merging and sequencing of the images will be done. Once, Hard Drive of the Computer is full, the files are transferred on to an External Hard Disk having the capacity of 500 GB and merged with the Master file. 7.2.12 Back-up For safety of the Scanned Manuscripts, it is required to Back-up the files on to CD- ROMs or DVDs in addition to storing on the External Hard Disk of the Computer. 7.2.13 Retrieval Stored Manuscripts will be retrieved by the Title or Accession Number or Bundle Number or Digitization Number, given to each of the Manuscripts. 7.3 Results of the Digitization Attempt Due to seriousness of the Digitization work being carried-out, yielding positive results.
