6. KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES IN COMPUTER DIVISION
Sharing Knowledge, networking to become acquainted with what others know
etc., are examples of investment activities to build intellectual capital for further use. In
this regard an Improved Knowledge Management server using Microsoft Share point
Services 2.0 has been configured and commissioned at Computer Division. It is planned
to extend its functionality at organizational level. Fig. 2 below shows the home page of
Knowledge Management portal of Computer Division
Windows Share Point Services 2.0 allows teams to create Web sites for
information sharing and document collaboration, benefits that help increase individual
and team productivity. Windows Share Point Services enables users to locate distributed
information quickly and efficiently, as well as connect to and work with others more
productively.
The knowledge is generated from internal operations. Once created, knowledge is
accessed when needed by the individuals throughout the Division. Then the knowledge is
represented in a formal manner like printed or displayed forms, reports, graphs, charts or
documents and uploaded to the server. While uploading the user is asked to enter the
metadata based on which the document can be searched Validity of the knowledge has
been established in the server and hence it is validated and then approved by the
respective domain expert. Then it is published by the Administrator of Knowledge
