Step 3: Balancing Workload between Men <strong>and</strong> Women<br />
Objective<br />
• To discuss the possibilities to change the division of work between men <strong>and</strong> <strong>women</strong><br />

• Both men or <strong>women</strong> together or separately<br />
• All ages<br />
• All educational levels<br />
• Rural <strong>and</strong> urban areas<br />
Material<br />
• One set of activity/situation cards from session 3.3 Division of work step 1: What do Men <strong>and</strong><br />
Women do (picture number 12 <strong>and</strong> 13)<br />
• One set of the man, woman <strong>and</strong> couple cards (picture no. 14)<br />
Situation cards:<br />
Women’s activities Men’s activities Man, couple, woman<br />
(picture No. 12) (picture No. 13) (picture No. 14)<br />
Exercise<br />
Step 1<br />
• Choose one set of the activity/situation cards from the first session on the division of work<br />
• Place the cards as follows: At the left the card showing the man, at the right the card showing<br />
the woman, <strong>and</strong> the card showing the couple in the middle<br />
• Place the activity/situation cards according to the colour of the cross under the correct card:<br />
(red crosses under the man, green under the woman <strong>and</strong> yellow under the couple)<br />
• Ask for each activity/situation under the picture showing the man if it can be done by both<br />
sexes. If the participants agree, move the card under the couple<br />
• Do the same for the activity/situations that are placed under the woman<br />
• At the end only the biologically determined ones, like shaving <strong>and</strong> being pregnant, remain<br />
under the pictures of man <strong>and</strong> woman, the rest, e.g. taking care of the children <strong>and</strong> household<br />
activities, can be done by both sexes<br />
