18–2. Composition<br />

The <strong>Army</strong> white uniform comprises the <strong>Army</strong> white coat <strong>and</strong> trousers, white shirt, <strong>and</strong> black bow tie or black four-inh<strong>and</strong><br />

necktie.<br />

18–3. Occasions for wear<br />

a. The following are appropriate occasions for personnel to wear the <strong>Army</strong> white uniform.<br />

(1) On duty in all areas, when appropriate <strong>and</strong> authorized by the local comm<strong>and</strong>er.<br />

(2) Off duty, for social occasions.<br />

b. Personnel may wear the <strong>Army</strong> white uniform with either the black bow tie or the black four-in-h<strong>and</strong> tie. When<br />

worn with a black bow tie, the <strong>Army</strong> white uniform constitutes a dress uniform <strong>and</strong> corresponds to a civilian summer<br />

tuxedo. When worn with a black four-in-h<strong>and</strong> tie, the <strong>Army</strong> white uniform is an informal uniform.<br />

18–4. Materials<br />

The material for this uniform is white polyester <strong>and</strong> texturized woven serge, 6.5–ounce weight.<br />

18–5. Coat, <strong>Army</strong> white<br />

a. Design. The coat will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The coat is a single-breasted, peak-lapel, four-button coat extending below the crotch, fitting<br />

easily over the chest <strong>and</strong> shoulders, with a slight draped effect in the front <strong>and</strong> back. The coat is fitted slightly at the<br />

waist, conforming to body shape without tightness <strong>and</strong> with no prominent flare.<br />

c. Coat sleeve ornamentation.<br />

(1) General <strong>of</strong>ficers. The sleeve has a b<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> white mohair or white mercerized cotton braid 1 1 ⁄2 inches wide sewn<br />

on each sleeve, with the lower edge parallel to, <strong>and</strong> 3 inches above the bottom edge <strong>of</strong> each sleeve.<br />

(2) Other <strong>of</strong>ficers. The sleeve has a b<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> white mohair or white mercerized cotton braid 1 ⁄2 inch wide sewn on<br />

each sleeve, with the lower edge parallel to, <strong>and</strong> 3 inches above the bottom edge <strong>of</strong> each sleeve.<br />

(3) Enlisted personnel. The sleeve is plain.<br />

18–6. Trousers, <strong>Army</strong> white<br />

a. Design. The trousers will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The trousers are straight legged without cuffs, <strong>and</strong> with front <strong>and</strong> hip pockets that are cut in<br />

a civilian style. Trousers that are made from 100 percent polyester should be lined. There is no ornamentation on the<br />

<strong>Army</strong> white trousers.<br />

18–7. Shirt, white<br />

A commercial, long-sleeved white shirt with barrel or French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard turndown collar is worn with the<br />

<strong>Army</strong> white uniform. (See para 27–22c for a complete description.)<br />

18–8. Service cap, <strong>Army</strong> white<br />

a. Design. The cap will be made from an approved specification or pattern, in a st<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>Army</strong> design. Officers<br />

have the option <strong>of</strong> wearing the cap frame with a removable cover made <strong>of</strong> the same material as the rest <strong>of</strong> the uniform.<br />
