24–6. Trousers, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

a. Design. The trousers will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The blue trousers are cut along the lines <strong>of</strong> civilian dress trousers, with a high waist <strong>and</strong><br />

without pleats, cuffs, or hip pockets. Personnel will wear only the high-waisted trousers with these uniforms.<br />

Suspenders are authorized for wear, but they may not be visible when worn. (See para 24–4b, above, for additional<br />

information on the trousers.)<br />

c. Trouser leg ornamentation. The trouser leg ornamentation consists <strong>of</strong> an ornamental braid worn on the outside<br />

seam <strong>of</strong> the trouser leg, from the bottom <strong>of</strong> the waistb<strong>and</strong> to the bottom <strong>of</strong> the trouser leg, as follows:<br />

(1) General <strong>of</strong>ficers have two 1 ⁄2–inch, two-vellum gold, synthetic metallic gold, or gold-colored nylon or rayon<br />

braids, spaced 1 ⁄2 inch apart.<br />

(2) All other <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> enlisted personnel have one 1 1 ⁄2 inch, two-vellum gold, synthetic metallic gold, or goldcolored<br />

nylon or rayon braid.<br />

24–7. Shirts, white dress<br />

a. Semiformal. A commercial, white, long-sleeved semiformal dress shirt with a s<strong>of</strong>t bosom, French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> a<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ard turndown collar is worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess uniform.<br />

b. Formal. A commercial, white, long-sleeved formal dress shirt with a stiff bosom, French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> a wing-type<br />

collar is worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue evening mess uniform.<br />

24–8. Headgear<br />

a. The <strong>Army</strong> blue service cap is the authorized headgear for wear with the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess <strong>and</strong> evening mess<br />

uniforms. (See para 20–8 for a complete description.)<br />

b. Personnel are not required to wear headgear with the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess <strong>and</strong> evening mess uniforms to evening<br />

social events.<br />

24–9. Cape, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

As an option, all <strong>of</strong>ficers are authorized to wear the <strong>Army</strong> blue cape instead <strong>of</strong> the black all-weather coat when wearing<br />

the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess <strong>and</strong> blue evening mess uniforms after duty hours. Enlisted personnel may not wear the cape. (See<br />

para 27–6c for design <strong>and</strong> wear policy.)<br />

24–10. Cummerbund, black<br />

a. Design. The cummerbund will be made from a commercial design. It is made <strong>of</strong> silk or satin material, with four<br />

or five pleats running the entire length <strong>of</strong> the cummerbund.<br />

b. <strong>Wear</strong>. All male personnel are authorized to wear the black cummerbund with the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess uniform. The<br />

cummerbund will be made <strong>of</strong> the same material as the bow tie, <strong>and</strong> it is worn with the pleats facing down.<br />

24–11. Vest, white<br />

a. Design. The vest will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The white vest is single breasted, cut low, with a rolling collar <strong>and</strong> pointed bottom, <strong>and</strong><br />

fastened with three detachable, extra small white buttons.<br />

c. <strong>Wear</strong>. The white vest is worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue evening mess uniform.<br />

24–12. Items normally worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue mess <strong>and</strong> evening mess uniforms<br />

a. Accessories.<br />

(1) Buttons (para 27–4).<br />

(2) Cape (<strong>of</strong>ficers only) (para 27–6c).<br />

(3) Coat, black, all-weather (para 27–8).<br />

(4) Cuff links <strong>and</strong> studs.<br />

(a) Gold (blue mess only) (para 27–10b(2)).<br />

(b) White (blue evening mess only) (para 27–10b(1)).<br />

(5) Gloves.<br />

(a) Black, leather, unisex, dress (only when the black all-weather coat is worn) (para 27–12b).<br />

(b) White, dress (para 27–12c).<br />

(6) Headgear.<br />

(a) Cap, service, blue (para 20–8).<br />
