. How worn.<br />

(1) Non-subdued insignia. Warrant <strong>of</strong>ficer c<strong>and</strong>idates wear their insignia as follows.<br />

(a) On service <strong>and</strong> dress uniform coats, c<strong>and</strong>idates wear their insignia on both collars, in the same manner as<br />

described in para 28–14.<br />

(b) On the garrison cap, c<strong>and</strong>idates wear the insignia centered on the left curtain, 1 inch from the front crease.<br />

Headgear insignia for other service hats <strong>and</strong> caps are the same as prescribed for enlisted personnel (see para 28–3 <strong>and</strong><br />

fig 28–130).<br />

(c) On the helmet liner, c<strong>and</strong>idates wear the W.O.C. decal painted on the front <strong>of</strong> the liner, in a prescribed color <strong>and</strong><br />

size, 2 1 ⁄2 inches from the bottom rim <strong>of</strong> the liner (see fig 28–131).<br />

(2) Subdued insignia. C<strong>and</strong>idates wear subdued W.O.C. insignia on all utility shirts <strong>and</strong> cold-weather jackets in the<br />

same manner as the non-subdued insignia worn on shirt collars, as described above.<br />

c. When worn. All active component personnel wear the insignia beginning on date <strong>of</strong> entry into the resident<br />

warrant <strong>of</strong>ficer entry course; all reserve component personnel wear the insignia beginning on date <strong>of</strong> board selection to<br />

enter WOC status. Both active component <strong>and</strong> reserve component WOC personnel will wear the insignia until<br />

appointed to the warrant <strong>of</strong>ficer category, or eliminated from WOC status.<br />

28–16. Shoulder sleeve insignia-current organization<br />

a. Authorization. Shoulder sleeve insignia (SSI) <strong>of</strong> a design approved by The Institute <strong>of</strong> Heraldry, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, are<br />

authorized <strong>and</strong> prescribed for wear on the service <strong>and</strong> utility uniforms <strong>of</strong> the following echelons:<br />

(1) MACOMs (as defined by AR 10–5).<br />

(2) Armies.<br />

(3) Corps.<br />

(4) U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Reserve Comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

(a) Regional readiness comm<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

(b) U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Reserve comm<strong>and</strong>s<br />

(5) Divisions.<br />

(6) Corps Support Comm<strong>and</strong>.<br />

(7) Separate TOE brigades (not organic to divisions).<br />

(8) Separate regiments (not organic to a group, brigade, or division), except training support regiments/battalions,<br />

which will wear the SSI <strong>of</strong> the training support division to which assigned.<br />

(9) General <strong>of</strong>ficer comm<strong>and</strong>s, USAR.<br />

(10) U.S. <strong>Army</strong> element <strong>of</strong> unified comm<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

(11) DA field operating agencies based on the following:<br />

(a) An identifiable comm<strong>and</strong> structure.<br />

(b) A valid justification in terms <strong>of</strong> unit mission, improving unit morale, <strong>and</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> unit permanency.<br />

(c) At least 250 military personnel assigned to the organization.<br />

(12) Other organizations, except U.S. <strong>Army</strong> garrisons, meeting the following criteria.<br />

(a) An identifiable comm<strong>and</strong> structure.<br />

(b) A valid justification in terms <strong>of</strong> unit mission, improving unit morale, <strong>and</strong> degree <strong>of</strong> unit permanency.<br />

(c) At least 500 military personnel assigned to the organization.<br />

b. Approval <strong>of</strong> design. Units meeting the criteria established above will submit requests for authorization <strong>of</strong> SSI<br />

through comm<strong>and</strong> channels, with a copy <strong>of</strong> permanent orders activating the unit, to: Director, The Institute <strong>of</strong> Heraldry,<br />

U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, 9325 Gunston Road, Room S112, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060–5579.<br />

c. Provisional units. The authorization <strong>of</strong> SSI will not be granted for provisional units.<br />

d. By whom worn. Personnel assigned to units not authorized SSI will wear the SSI <strong>of</strong> the comm<strong>and</strong> to which the<br />

unit is assigned. As an exception, personnel assigned to training support regiments/battalions will wear the SSI <strong>of</strong> the<br />

training support division to which assigned or aligned.<br />

(1) MACOM comm<strong>and</strong>ers are authorized to permit, on a case-by-case basis, the wear <strong>of</strong> corps or separate brigade<br />

SSI by members <strong>of</strong> units attached to specific corps or separate brigades on a permanent basis. The term “permanent”<br />

applies to those units that are, have been, or expect to be attached for an extended period <strong>of</strong> time. Units that are<br />

temporarily attached for activation, training, <strong>and</strong> deployment are not considered permanently attached.<br />

(2) Enlisted personnel attached to Headquarters Company, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, who are assigned to or performing duty with<br />

HQDA staff agencies <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong>fices <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> Defense, will wear the Headquarters Company, U.S. <strong>Army</strong>, SSI.<br />

(3) The DA staff support SSI is worn by personnel assigned to DA field operating agencies, unless the agency is<br />

authorized an SSI within its own right.<br />
