as parades or ceremonies. (See para 2–6c for other exceptions to this policy.) These uniforms are worn only in garrison<br />

<strong>and</strong> are not authorized for wear in the field.<br />

11–4. <strong>Insignia</strong> <strong>and</strong> accouterments<br />

The following insignia are authorized for wear on the food service uniforms.<br />

a. Grade insignia, non-subdued (paras 28–5, 28–6, <strong>and</strong> 28–7).<br />

b. Headgear insignia (para 28–3).<br />

c. Nameplate (para 28–24c).<br />

d. Organizational flash (para 28–31a).<br />

11–5. General guidelines<br />

a. The food h<strong>and</strong>ler’s apron <strong>and</strong> the food h<strong>and</strong>ler’s cap (CTA 50–970) are authorized for wear only within the<br />

immediate vicinity <strong>of</strong> the dining facility. No insignia is worn on the food h<strong>and</strong>ler’s cap. The optional purchase, white<br />

unisex cardigan is authorized for wear as an outer garment with the food service utility uniform while on duty.<br />

However, soldiers may not wear the white cardigan when serving or preparing food. Soldiers may wear the white<br />

unisex cardigan buttoned or unbuttoned while indoors; when outdoors, with the exception <strong>of</strong> pregnant soldiers, they<br />

will wear the cardigan buttoned. Soldiers will wear the collar <strong>of</strong> the smock outside the sweater so rank is visible.<br />

Soldiers may wear the black all-weather coat <strong>and</strong> cold-weather camouflage coat (field jacket) as outer garments with<br />

these uniforms. When the cold-weather coat or other authorized cold-weather outer garments are worn, personnel may<br />

wear the olive green scarf <strong>and</strong> the black leather shell gloves, but they are not required to do so. Soldiers may wear the<br />

optional purchase, black windbreaker (para 27–30), except in formation.<br />

b. Black oxford shoes or combat boots are worn with the food service uniforms, unless other footwear is authorized<br />

by CTA 50–900. Soldiers will wear either black socks or sheer stockings with the black oxfords, with the pantsuit, or<br />

with the tunic with slacks. Sheer stockings are worn with the food service uniform dresses. The slacks are not bloused<br />

when wearing boots.<br />

c. The black beret became the basic headgear for this uniform on 14 June 2001 (see para 3–5 for wear policy).<br />

Soldiers may wear the food h<strong>and</strong>ler’s cap only while in the dining facility.<br />

d. The food service supervisor may wear the white blouse, black slacks or skirt, black oxford shoes, <strong>and</strong> the beret,<br />

when authorized by the comm<strong>and</strong>er. The black windbreaker, black pullover sweater, black unisex cardigan, <strong>and</strong> black<br />

all-weather coat are authorized for wear with this uniform. Food service supervisors may wear the black cardigan<br />

buttoned or unbuttoned while indoors; outdoors, with the exception <strong>of</strong> pregnant soldiers, they must button the sweater.<br />

The food inspector’s smock is authorized for wear with the food service supervisor uniform only while in the dining<br />

facility.<br />

e. The black scarf, black dress gloves, <strong>and</strong> the AG 489 cold-weather service cap are authorized for wear with the<br />

black all weather-coat with the food service uniforms. Females may carry h<strong>and</strong>bags with these uniforms, except when<br />

in formation.<br />

f. The issuance <strong>of</strong> the food service maternity uniform to female personnel has no bearing on the issuance <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Army</strong> green maternity service uniform (chap 17), or the maternity work uniform (chap 4).<br />

g. Figure 11–1 shows the food service uniform for females.<br />

Flight <strong>Uniforms</strong><br />

12–1. Authorization for wear<br />

The <strong>Army</strong> flight uniform is authorized for year-round wear by flight crews, when prescribed by CTA 50–900 <strong>and</strong> the<br />

comm<strong>and</strong>er. (See fig 12–1.)<br />
