b. Subdued branch insignia.<br />

(1) On all field, utility, <strong>and</strong> select organizational uniforms, male <strong>and</strong> female <strong>of</strong>ficers wear subdued branch insignia<br />

centered on the left collar, 1 inch up from the lower edge <strong>of</strong> the collar with the centerline <strong>of</strong> the insignia parallel to the<br />

lower edge <strong>of</strong> the collar (see fig 28–119).<br />

(2) Enlisted personnel are not authorized to wear subdued branch insignia on <strong>Army</strong> uniforms.<br />

(3) Officers may wear metal pin-on or embroidered branch insignia on cloth backing. Officers may not mix<br />

materials used for the branch insignia <strong>and</strong> grade; both must be made from the same material.<br />

28–13. <strong>Insignia</strong> for U.S. Military Academy (USMA) staff<br />

The USMA non-subdued branch insignia is the USMA coat <strong>of</strong> arms, 1 inch in height. The coat <strong>of</strong> arms consists <strong>of</strong> the<br />

shield <strong>of</strong> the United States bearing a Greek sword surmounted by the helmet <strong>of</strong> Pallas. The shield supports an eagle<br />

displayed with scroll <strong>and</strong> USMA motto, in gold-colored metal. Permanent pr<strong>of</strong>essors, registrars, <strong>and</strong> civilian instructors<br />

<strong>of</strong> the USMA wear this insignia in the same manner as prescribed in paragraph 28–12 for all other branch insignia (see<br />

fig 28–126).<br />
