(1) Type. The h<strong>and</strong>bag is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The h<strong>and</strong>bag is untrimmed, in white leather or fabric, <strong>of</strong> a commercial design, envelope or clutch<br />

style, with or without a chain or strap.<br />

(3) <strong>Wear</strong>.<br />

(a) Females may carry the white leather h<strong>and</strong>bag when wearing the <strong>Army</strong> white dress uniform, during or after duty<br />

hours.<br />

(b) The white fabric h<strong>and</strong>bag is authorized for use with the <strong>Army</strong> all-white mess uniform. Females also may carry<br />

the h<strong>and</strong>bag when wearing the <strong>Army</strong> white dress uniform, after duty hours.<br />

(4) The h<strong>and</strong>bag <strong>and</strong> shoes must be made <strong>of</strong> the same or similar material.<br />

d. H<strong>and</strong>bag, shoulder, black.<br />

(1) Type. The h<strong>and</strong>bag is a one-time cash allowance item as part <strong>of</strong> the initial clothing bag allowance.<br />

(2) Description. The h<strong>and</strong>bag is a commercial design, black, in polyurethane or leather, with a shoulder strap<br />

attached.<br />

(3) How worn. Females may carry this h<strong>and</strong>bag with the service <strong>and</strong> <strong>Army</strong> blue uniforms, <strong>and</strong> with utility uniforms<br />

while in a garrison (non-field) environment. Females may carry the bag in the h<strong>and</strong> or wear it over one shoulder.<br />

Soldiers may not wear the shoulder bag in such a manner that the strap is draped diagonally across the body, with the<br />

purse resting on the hip opposite the shoulder holding the strap.<br />

27–14. Hat, drill sergeant<br />

a. Female.<br />

(1) Type. The hat is an organizational issue item.<br />

(2) Description. The hat is made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

(3) How worn.<br />

(a) The hat is worn with the utility <strong>and</strong> service uniforms by female drill sergeants assigned to valid drill sergeant<br />

positions. Noncommissioned <strong>of</strong>ficer (NCO) faculty members <strong>of</strong> a drill sergeant school who have graduated from drill<br />

sergeant school <strong>and</strong> are actively engaged in drill sergeant instruction will wear this hat. Upon release from this<br />

assignment, NCOs are no longer authorized to wear the drill sergeant hat.<br />

(b) The hat is worn straight on the head with no hair visible on the forehead below the front brim <strong>of</strong> the hat.<br />

Personnel will wear the hat so as to retain its original design <strong>and</strong> will not crush, flatten, dent, or otherwise reshape the<br />

hat. Personnel will wear the hat with the left side <strong>of</strong> the brim snapped, <strong>and</strong> the right side parallel to the ground. The<br />

chinstrap is worn with the chinstrap keeper pushed up under the chin. The headgear insignia worn on the drill sergeant<br />

hat is described in paragraph 28–3c (see fig 27–10).<br />
