(1) Type. The shoes are optional purchase items.<br />

(2) Description. The pumps are <strong>of</strong> a commercial design in black or white fabric. The pumps are untrimmed, with a<br />

closed toe <strong>and</strong> heel. The heel must be at least 1 ⁄2 inch but no more than 3 inches. The sole thickness will not exceed 1 ⁄2<br />

inch. When a h<strong>and</strong>bag is carried, the shoes <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>bag must be made <strong>of</strong> the same material.<br />

(3) <strong>Wear</strong>.<br />

(a) Black dress fabric pumps are authorized for wear with the blue, black, <strong>and</strong> white mess uniforms; with all<br />

evening mess uniforms; <strong>and</strong> with the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform after duty hours.<br />

(b) White dress fabric pumps are authorized for wear with the all-white mess uniform, <strong>and</strong> with the <strong>Army</strong> white<br />

uniform after duty hours.<br />

27–24. Socks<br />

a. Socks, black, cushion sole.<br />

(1) Type. The socks are clothing bag issue items.<br />

(2) Description. The socks are black nylon <strong>and</strong> wool blend, stretch type, calf-length with a cushion sole.<br />

(3) How worn. The black, cushion sole socks are worn by all personnel when wearing combat or organizationally<br />

issued boots. They can also be worn as a two-sock system with the st<strong>and</strong>ard liner sock (also called the black dress<br />

sock) for additional foot protection.<br />

b. Socks, dress black, <strong>and</strong> sock, boot liner.<br />

(1) Type. The socks are clothing bag issue items for male personnel <strong>and</strong> optional purchase items for females.<br />

(2) Description. The socks are made from an approved specification or commercial design. They are calf-length,<br />

black polyester <strong>and</strong> nylon.<br />

(3) How worn. Black socks are worn with black oxford shoes.<br />

c. Socks, white, service.<br />

(1) Type. The socks are optional purchase items.<br />

(2) Description. The socks are <strong>of</strong> an approved specification or commercial design. They are white cotton, or cotton<br />

<strong>and</strong> nylon, plain, ribbed, stretch type, or with an elastic top.<br />

(3) How worn. Males wear the white socks with the white oxford shoes. Females may wear the white socks instead<br />

<strong>of</strong> white stockings when wearing the hospital duty pantsuit with the white oxford shoes.<br />

d. Stockings, sheer.<br />

(1) Type. The stockings are a one-time cash allowance as part <strong>of</strong> the initial clothing bag allowance.<br />

(2) Description. The stockings are sheer or semi-sheer, without seams, <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> tones complementary to the wearer’s<br />

skin tone <strong>and</strong> to the uniform. No patterned or pastel stockings are authorized while in uniform.<br />

(3) How worn. The stockings are worn with the service, dress, <strong>and</strong> mess uniforms. As an option when wearing<br />

slacks, females may wear black socks with the black oxford shoe or the optional ankle boots. The socks must be calf<br />

length, plain, black cotton, or cotton <strong>and</strong> nylon (see para 27–24a, above).<br />

e. Stockings, white.<br />

(1) Type. The stockings are optional purchase items.<br />

(2) Description. They are sheer or semi-sheer, without seams.<br />

(3) How worn. Females wear the white stockings with the hospital duty uniforms, when wearing the white oxford<br />

shoes. Females may wear white socks instead <strong>of</strong> white stockings when wearing the hospital duty pantsuit.<br />

27–25. Suspenders<br />

a. Type. Suspenders are optional purchase items.<br />

b. Description. They are <strong>of</strong> commercial design.<br />

c. How worn. Males may wear suspenders with the dress, mess, <strong>and</strong> evening mess uniforms, as long as they are not<br />

visible when worn.<br />

27–26. Sweaters<br />

a. Cardigan, black, unisex.<br />

(1) Type. The black cardigan is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The black cardigan is 50/50 acrylic <strong>and</strong> wool, in a long-sleeved coat style, with five buttons, <strong>and</strong><br />

shoulder epaulets (see fig 27–14).<br />
