S u m m a r y . T h i s r e g u l a t i o n p r e s c r i b e s<br />

Department <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Army</strong> policy for proper<br />

wear <strong>and</strong> appearance <strong>of</strong> <strong>Army</strong> uniforms<br />

<strong>and</strong> insignia, as worn by <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> enlisted<br />

personnel <strong>of</strong> the active <strong>Army</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

the U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Reserve, as well as by<br />

former Soldiers.<br />

Applicability. This regulation applies to<br />

t h e a c t i v e A r m y , t h e A r m y N a t i o n a l<br />

Guard/<strong>Army</strong> National Guard <strong>of</strong> the United<br />

States, <strong>and</strong> the U.S. <strong>Army</strong> Reserve, unless<br />

otherwise stated. Also, it applies to the<br />

Reserve Officers’ Training Corps <strong>and</strong> the<br />

<strong>Uniforms</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Insignia</strong><br />

<strong>Wear</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Appearance</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Army</strong> <strong>Uniforms</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Insignia</strong><br />

Corps <strong>of</strong> Cadets, United States Military<br />

Academy, only when their respective uniform<br />

regulations do not include sufficient<br />

guidance or instruction. It does not apply<br />

t o g e n e r a l s o f t h e A r m y , t h e C h i e f o f<br />

Staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Army</strong>, or former Chiefs <strong>of</strong><br />

Staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Army</strong>, each <strong>of</strong> whom may<br />

prescribe his or her own uniform. During<br />

mobilization, the proponent may modify<br />

c h a p t e r s a n d p o l i c i e s c o n t a i n e d i n t h i s<br />

regulation.<br />

Proponent <strong>and</strong> exception authority.<br />

The proponent <strong>of</strong> this regulation is the<br />

Deputy Chief <strong>of</strong> Staff, G–1. The proponent<br />

has the authority to approve exceptions<br />

or waivers to this regulation that are<br />

consistent with controlling law <strong>and</strong> regulations.<br />

The proponent may delegate this<br />

approval authority, in writing, to a division<br />

chief within the proponent agency or<br />

its direct reporting unit or field operating<br />

agency, in the grade <strong>of</strong> colonel or the<br />

civilian equivalent. Activities may request<br />

a waiver to this regulation by providing<br />

justification that includes a full analysis <strong>of</strong><br />
