aid is authorized for enlisted personnel. The braid on the slacks <strong>and</strong> the coat sleeve will be <strong>of</strong> the same material. The<br />

bottom <strong>of</strong> the braid is positioned parallel to, <strong>and</strong> 3 inches above the bottom <strong>of</strong> each sleeve as follows.<br />

(1) General <strong>of</strong>ficers have one 1 1 ⁄2 inch gold braid on each sleeve.<br />

(2) For all other <strong>of</strong>ficers, each sleeve has a 3 ⁄4-inch braid consisting <strong>of</strong> two 1 ⁄4-inch gold braids placed 1 ⁄4 inch apart<br />

on silk material, <strong>of</strong> the first-named color <strong>of</strong> their basic branch.<br />

(3) Enlisted personnel have a 1 ⁄8-inch soutache braid <strong>of</strong> gold-colored nylon or rayon on each sleeve.<br />

21–6. Skirt, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

a. Design. The skirt will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The skirt is knee length, with a three-piece front <strong>and</strong> three-piece back, slightly flared, with a<br />

waistb<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> a zipper closure on the left side.<br />

21–7. Slacks, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

a. Design. The slacks will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The slacks are straight-legged with slightly flared bottoms <strong>and</strong> a zipper front closure on the<br />

center front. The slacks have two side pockets.<br />

c. Slack leg ornamentation. Ornamental braid is worn on each outside seam <strong>of</strong> the slack leg, from the bottom <strong>of</strong> the<br />

waistb<strong>and</strong> to the bottom <strong>of</strong> slack leg, as follows:<br />

(1) General <strong>of</strong>ficers have two 1 ⁄2-inch two-vellum gold, synthetic metallic gold, or gold-colored nylon or rayon<br />

braids, spaced 1 ⁄2 inch apart.<br />

(2) All other <strong>of</strong>ficers have one 1-inch two-vellum gold, synthetic metallic gold, or gold-colored nylon or rayon<br />

braid.<br />

(3) Enlisted personnel have one 1-inch gold-colored nylon or rayon braid.<br />

d. Personnel will not wear the <strong>Army</strong> blue slacks for social functions. They are approved for wear by selected<br />

females (such as, but not limited to, b<strong>and</strong>, honor guard, <strong>and</strong> female chaplains), in the performance <strong>of</strong> their daily duties<br />

where the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform slacks are more appropriate than the <strong>Army</strong> blue skirt.<br />

21–8. Shirt, white<br />

A short-sleeved white shirt with black neck tab is worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform. (See para 27–22a for a complete<br />

description.)<br />

21–9. Capes, <strong>Army</strong> blue <strong>and</strong> black<br />

As an option, all female <strong>of</strong>ficers are authorized to wear the <strong>Army</strong> blue or <strong>Army</strong> black cape instead <strong>of</strong> the black allweather<br />

coat when wearing the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform after duty hours. Enlisted personnel may not wear the cape. (See<br />

para 27–6 <strong>of</strong> this regulation for a complete description <strong>of</strong> cape wear.)<br />

21–10. Service hat, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

a. Design. The hat will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The hat has an oval-shaped crown <strong>and</strong> a detachable hatb<strong>and</strong> for placement <strong>of</strong> insignia. Hat<br />

insignia is worn centered <strong>and</strong> secured through the hatb<strong>and</strong>. (See para 28–3 for a description <strong>of</strong> insignia wear.)<br />

c. Hatb<strong>and</strong>. The detachable hatb<strong>and</strong> has three rows <strong>of</strong> stitching <strong>of</strong> matching thread at the top <strong>of</strong> the b<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong><br />

ornamentation, as follows:<br />

(1) General <strong>and</strong> field grade <strong>of</strong>ficers. The hat has two arcs <strong>of</strong> laurel leaves grouped in twos, embroidered in gold<br />

bullion, synthetic metallic gold-colored braid, or gold-colored nylon or rayon braid.<br />

(2) Company grade <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>and</strong> warrant <strong>of</strong>ficers. The hat has a b<strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> 1 ⁄2–inch, two-vellum gold, gold-colored<br />

synthetic metallic braid, or gold-colored nylon or rayon braid, placed on the bottom edge <strong>of</strong> the hatb<strong>and</strong>.<br />

(3) Enlisted personnel. There is no ornamentation on the hatb<strong>and</strong>.<br />

d. <strong>Wear</strong>. All female personnel may wear the <strong>Army</strong> blue service hat with the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform. Personnel are not<br />

required to wear headgear when wearing the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform to evening social functions (after retreat). However,<br />

on all other occasions personnel will wear headgear with this uniform.<br />

e. Proper wear position. The service hat is worn straight on the head so that the hatb<strong>and</strong> creates a straight line<br />

around the head, parallel to the ground. Hair will not be visible below the front brim <strong>of</strong> the hat, <strong>and</strong> there should be 1 ⁄2to<br />

1-inch distance between the eyebrow <strong>and</strong> the brim <strong>of</strong> the hat.<br />

21–11. Items normally worn with the <strong>Army</strong> blue uniform<br />

a. Accessories.<br />

(1) Buttons (para 27–4).<br />

(2) Capes (<strong>of</strong>ficers only).<br />

(a) Black (para 27–6a).<br />
