22–8. Headgear<br />

a. The <strong>Army</strong> white service cap is the authorized headgear for wear with the <strong>Army</strong> white mess <strong>and</strong> white evening<br />

mess uniforms. (See para 18–8 <strong>of</strong> this regulation for a complete description <strong>of</strong> the wear <strong>of</strong> the cap.)<br />

b. Personnel are not required to wear headgear with the <strong>Army</strong> white mess <strong>and</strong> white evening mess uniforms to<br />

evening social events.<br />

22–9. Cape, <strong>Army</strong> blue<br />

As an option, all <strong>of</strong>ficers are authorized to wear the <strong>Army</strong> blue cape instead <strong>of</strong> the black all-weather coat, when<br />

wearing the <strong>Army</strong> white mess <strong>and</strong> white evening mess uniforms after duty hours. Enlisted personnel may not wear the<br />

cape. (See para 27–6c for design <strong>and</strong> wear policy.)<br />

22–10. Cummerbund, black<br />

a. Design. The cummerbund will be made from a commercial design. It is made <strong>of</strong> silk or satin material, with four<br />

or five pleats running the entire length <strong>of</strong> the cummerbund.<br />

b. <strong>Wear</strong>. All male personnel are authorized to wear the black cummerbund with the <strong>Army</strong> white mess uniform. The<br />

cummerbund will be made <strong>of</strong> the same material as the bow tie, <strong>and</strong> is worn with the pleats facing down.<br />

22–11. Vest, white<br />

a. Design. The vest will be made from an approved specification or pattern.<br />

b. General description. The white vest is single breasted, cut low, with a rolling collar <strong>and</strong> pointed bottom, <strong>and</strong><br />

fastened with three detachable, extra small white buttons.<br />

c. How worn. The white vest is worn with the white bow tie <strong>and</strong> white formal dress shirt with a wing collar, as part<br />

<strong>of</strong> the white evening mess uniform.<br />

(2) <strong>Insignia</strong>.<br />

(a) Branch insignia (paras 28–10 <strong>and</strong> 28–12). Branch insignia is worn as prescribed in paras 22–5d(1) <strong>and</strong> (3).<br />

(b) Grade insignia (paras 28–5 through 28–8). Grade insignia is worn as prescribed in paras 22–5d(1) <strong>and</strong> (2).<br />

(c) Regimental distinctive insignia (para 28–23).<br />
