words “U.S. <strong>Army</strong>” on the third line. The nameplate is provided at no expense to the soldier.<br />

(2) The SSI is worn 1 ⁄2 inch below the shoulder seam. Officer personnel will wear subdued embroidered insignia <strong>of</strong><br />

grade on the shoulder <strong>of</strong> the organizational flight suit <strong>and</strong> flight jacket. The insignia is centered 5 ⁄8 inch in from the<br />

shoulder seam. Chest insignia patches are not authorized.<br />

(3) Local comm<strong>and</strong>ers may authorize all aviation personnel who are not authorized flight clothing to remove pin-on<br />

metal insignia from the work uniforms while engaged in maintenance activities near the aircraft.<br />

(4) Local comm<strong>and</strong>ers may authorize the wear <strong>of</strong> solid baseball caps (when authorized in accordance with CTA<br />

50–900) by aircraft <strong>and</strong> ground crewmembers as a safety <strong>and</strong> identification measure, while on the flight line or in the<br />

base operations area. Personnel will wear st<strong>and</strong>ard headgear outside this area. Soldiers will wear grade insignia on<br />

organizational baseball caps, in accordance with para 28–3f. Comm<strong>and</strong>ers will provide the caps to soldiers at no<br />

expense.<br />

c. Comm<strong>and</strong>ers may authorize the use <strong>of</strong> a camouflage personal hydration system only in the following situations:<br />

in a field environment, in high-heat areas, or on work details. Soldiers will not carry hydration systems in a garrison<br />

environment, unless the comm<strong>and</strong>er has authorized it for one <strong>of</strong> the situations described above. Soldiers will not let the<br />

drinking tube hang from their mouths when the device is not in use.<br />

Combat Vehicle Crewman Uniform<br />

13–1. Authorization for wear<br />

The combat vehicle crewman (CVC) uniform is authorized for year-round wear by combat vehicle crewmen, when<br />

issued in accordance with CTA 50–900 <strong>and</strong> prescribed by the comm<strong>and</strong>er. (See fig 13–1.)<br />
