the AG shade 469 (poly/wool) long-sleeved <strong>and</strong> short-sleeved shirts. The necktie is required for wear when the longsleeved<br />

shirt is worn without the class A coat, <strong>and</strong> when the long- <strong>and</strong> short-sleeved shirts are worn with the class A<br />

coat. It is optional when the short-sleeved <strong>and</strong> long-sleeved shirts are worn with the black pullover <strong>and</strong> cardigan<br />

sweaters. The necktie is worn with the <strong>Army</strong> green dress, white, <strong>and</strong> blue uniforms before retreat or on duty. Personnel<br />

may wear the four-in-h<strong>and</strong> tie with the <strong>Army</strong> blue or white uniform after retreat, when the dress code is “military<br />

informal.”<br />

27–20. Overshoes, black<br />

a. Type. The overshoes are optional purchase items.<br />

b. Description. The material is rubber or synthetic, <strong>of</strong> a commercial design.<br />

c. How worn. The overshoes are for optional wear with oxford shoes by male personnel during inclement weather,<br />

when not in formation. They are worn with service, dress, <strong>and</strong> mess uniforms.<br />

27–21. Scarves<br />

a. Dress, black.<br />

(1) Type. Scarves are optional purchase items.<br />

(2) Description. The material is wool, silk, or rayon, <strong>of</strong> a commercial design, approximately 12 by 52 inches.<br />

(3) How worn. The scarf is authorized for wear by all personnel with the <strong>Army</strong> black all-weather coat <strong>and</strong> the<br />

windbreaker. The scarf is worn folded in half lengthwise, with the lengths crossed left over right at the neck, <strong>and</strong> the<br />

ends <strong>of</strong> the scarf tucked neatly into the neckline <strong>of</strong> the outer garment. When worn properly, the folded portion <strong>of</strong> the<br />

scarf may be slightly visible above the collar <strong>of</strong> the outer garment.<br />

b. Utility, OG 208.<br />

(1) Type. The scarves are organizational issue items.<br />

(2) Description. The material is wool, flat-jersey knit, in OG shade 208, in a tubular, seamless-type style with<br />

reinforced ends, 51 1 ⁄2 to 55 1 ⁄2 inches long, by 8 1 ⁄2 to 9 1 ⁄2 inches wide.<br />

(3) How worn. The scarf is authorized for wear with the cold-weather utility coats (field jackets <strong>and</strong> parkas). The<br />

scarf is worn with the lengths folded in half lengthwise <strong>and</strong> crossed left over right at the neck, with the ends <strong>of</strong> the<br />

scarf tucked neatly into the neckline <strong>of</strong> the outer garment. When worn properly, the folded portion <strong>of</strong> the scarf may be<br />

slightly visible above the collar <strong>of</strong> the outer garment.<br />

27–22. Shirts<br />

a. Shirt, white, short-sleeved with black neck tab, female.<br />

(1) Type. The shirt is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The material is white polyester <strong>and</strong> cotton broadcloth. The shirt has short sleeves <strong>and</strong> a pointed<br />

collar. The black neck tab that is worn with the AG shade 415 shirt is worn with the short-sleeved white shirt.<br />

(3) How worn. Enlisted females wear the shirt when they wear the <strong>Army</strong> green service uniform as a dress uniform.<br />

All females wear the shirt with the <strong>Army</strong> blue <strong>and</strong> white dress uniforms.<br />

b. Shirt, white, formal, female mess.<br />

(1) Type. The shirt is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The shirt is a tuck-in style made <strong>of</strong> polyester <strong>and</strong> cotton fabric, with a front closure containing<br />

seven removable, dome-shaped, pearl-like buttons. On each side <strong>of</strong> the front opening, there are three vertical rows <strong>of</strong><br />

ruffles. The shirt has short sleeves <strong>and</strong> a rounded collar.<br />

(3) How worn. The shirt is worn with mess <strong>and</strong> evening mess uniforms.<br />

c. Shirt, white, long-sleeved, male.<br />

(1) Type. The shirt is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The material is a plain polyester <strong>and</strong> cotton broadcloth, <strong>of</strong> a commercial design. The shirt has long<br />

sleeves, regular or French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> a st<strong>and</strong>ard turndown collar with tapered points, approximately 2 5 ⁄8 inches long.<br />

Button-down or snap tab collars are not authorized.<br />

(3) How worn. Enlisted males wear the shirt with the <strong>Army</strong> green uniform when they wear it as a dress uniform. All<br />

males wear the shirt with the <strong>Army</strong> blue <strong>and</strong> white uniforms.<br />

d. Shirt, white, semiformal, dress, male mess.<br />

(1) Type. The shirt is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The shirt is a white, semiformal dress shirt with long sleeves, a s<strong>of</strong>t bosom, French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> a<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ard turndown collar.<br />

(3) How worn. The shirt is worn with the blue <strong>and</strong> white mess uniforms.<br />

e. Shirt, white, formal, male evening mess.<br />

(1) Type. The shirt is an optional purchase item.<br />

(2) Description. The shirt is a white, formal dress shirt with long sleeves, a stiff bosom, French cuffs, <strong>and</strong> a wing<br />
