Piezoelectric crystals may be X or Y cut depending on which orientation they are sliced. The crystals used in <strong>UT</strong> testing are X cut, due to the mode of vibration they produced (longitudinal wave). This means that the crystal is sliced with it main axis perpendicular with the X axis.
