This course is the fi rst of two UNIX courses designed to<br />

prepare you for entry-level operation of the world’s leading<br />

operating systems for Internet Web sites. This course,<br />

combined with our offered A+ Certification preparation<br />

courses, Part I and Part II to lead to the successful preparation<br />

for CompTIA’s Linux+ certifi cation. You will learn how to<br />

install, setup, and maintain Sun Microsystem’s Solaris (UNIX)<br />

Operating System. You will also learn to use a wide variety of<br />

built-in utility and application programs. This course is taught<br />

using the same sophisticated and proven curriculum engine<br />

as the Cisco Networking Academy’s CCNA certifi cation<br />

preparation program. After completing this course, you will be<br />

well on your way to taking and passing Sun’s Certified System<br />

CTS 2210 INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL GRAPHICS<br />

This course provides you with the skills needed to create<br />

effective digital documents incorporating layouts, photographs,<br />

and illustrations in the business and organizational<br />

environment. You will be introduced to fundamental, tooloriented<br />

principles of typography, color, layout, tables, charts<br />

and graphs, graphic illustration, photographic correction, and<br />

text/graphic integration. You will become proficient in the use<br />

This course introduces you to the practice of dental assisting.<br />

Topics covered in detail are history of dental assisting,<br />

professional dental assistant, and the role of the dental health<br />

care team. Communicating in the dental offi ce, establishing<br />

patient rapport, and working with different patient groups<br />

will also be covered. Content on fixed and removable<br />

appliances, implants, oral rehabilitation, and oral piercings will<br />

Preclinical Orientation I Lab provides you with the principles<br />

and application of dental assistant procedures. Laboratory<br />

topics will acquaint you with the scope of the dental assistant<br />

profession and provide you with a perspective role on being<br />

an integral part of the dental team. This course will introduce<br />

you to the practice of dental assisting. All topics discussed<br />

in the companion didactic course will be demonstrated and<br />

practiced. Topics included are disease transmission and<br />

infection control, principles and techniques of instrument<br />

processing and sterilization, occupational health and safety,<br />

and chemical and waste management. Prerequisite: Program<br />

DEA 0026 PRECLINICAL ORIENTATION II<br />

This course includes discussions about the dental assistant’s<br />

role and responsibility in the community as an oral health care<br />

professional. Other topics included are tobacco cessation,<br />

HIV/AIDs, and treating physically/mentally challenged and<br />

homebound patients. The use of clinical photography, dental<br />

pulp tester, and diagnodent and velscope in dental treatments<br />

DEA 0026L PRECLINICAL ORIENTATION II LAB<br />

This course allows you to actively participate in scheduled<br />

dental procedures in the dental lab and clinic. You will partner<br />

up to give Oral Hygiene Instructions (OHI) and post-op<br />

instructions, use the velscope for oral examination of tissues,<br />

coronal polish and fluoride, and take clinical photographs for a<br />

photography portfolio. Additional time will be spent perfecting<br />

preparation for and dismissing patients. Prerequisite: DEA<br />

DEA 0130 ALLIED DENTAL THEORY<br />

This course is the study of those scientifi c areas related<br />

Clinical Practice I is a continuation of Intro to Clinical Practice.<br />

Course discussion will cover the dental specialty practice<br />

and content for endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery,<br />

dental implants, prosthodontics, periodontics, and pediatric<br />

DEA 0800L CLINICAL PRACTICE I LAB<br />

This course is a continuation of DEA 0025L and is designed<br />

to comprehensively prepare you as a dental assistant through<br />

an internship program in a private dental practice and college<br />

dental facility. You will have additional responsibilities in the<br />

area of restorative and cosmetic dentistry, fixed and removable<br />

prosthodontics, radiography requirements, infection control,<br />

team leadership, receptionist responsibilities, patient<br />

management, and expanded functions. Prerequisite: DEA<br />
