II.<br />

Technical Credit<br />

A. Admissions:<br />

1. If you plan to enter technical early-college/<br />

dual-enrollment classes, you will be required<br />

to complete the Early-<strong>College</strong>/Dual-Enrollment<br />

Admissions Application form prior to testing<br />

and/or enrolling in academic or technical<br />

coursework. You will not be permitted to test<br />

or enroll in coursework prior to completion of<br />

the application process.<br />

2. The application must list the technical program<br />

in which you plan to enroll.<br />

3. The SFCC Admissions Office will coordinate<br />

dissemination and collection of admissions<br />

applications.<br />

B. Initial Testing:<br />

1. The SFCC Testing Center will coordinate<br />

with the appropriate departments, campuses,<br />

centers, and high schools to provide the TABE.<br />

2. Test results will be forwarded to the technical<br />

instructors and to the high school. If you do<br />

not attain certification scores for your technical<br />

program, you will be advised of your options<br />

for remediation.<br />

C. Registration:<br />

1. When you have completed the admissions<br />

process, have evidence of appropriate test<br />

scores, and have an unweighted GPA of<br />

2.0 or above, you will be eligible to register<br />

for technical early-college/dual-enrollment<br />

courses. NOTE: If you are designated as<br />

performance based, you will not be required<br />

to meet the 2.0 unweighted GPA requirement.<br />

D. Orientation and Advising:<br />

1. All early-college/dual-enrolled students are<br />

required to complete an orientation. Orientation<br />

session times will be coordinated through<br />

SFCC and jointly planned with the high school<br />

guidance staff. Parents and students will<br />

receive advanced notification of scheduled<br />

dates and times.<br />

2. General information sessions will be scheduled<br />

twice annually at each high school (October<br />

and April). These sessions will promote student<br />

success, introduce participants to educational<br />

resources, and provide counseling related to<br />

specific programs and majors.<br />

Private/Home School Procedure - early-college/<br />

dual-enrolled students at private or home high schools<br />

use the following steps to participate in college credit or<br />

technical credit coursework through SFCC.<br />

A. Admissions:<br />

1. If you are attending a private or home school<br />

program, and plan to enroll in early-college/<br />

dual-enrolled classes, you must submit an<br />

Admissions Application to the Registrar’s Office<br />

prior to testing and/or registration. You must<br />

be between 15 - 17 years of age (younger age<br />

requires the approval of the dean of Student<br />

Services).<br />

2. You will not be permitted to test or enroll prior<br />

to completion of the application process.<br />

B. Testing:<br />

1. You must contact the SFCC Testing Center to<br />

schedule an appointment to take the college<br />

placement test prior to registration. Test scores<br />

will be submitted to the registrar for interpretation<br />

and to determine whether you are eligible to enroll<br />

in classes. ACT and/or SAT scores should be<br />

submitted along with the Admissions Application,<br />

if you plan to use these tests to meet the testing<br />

requirement.<br />

2. Retesting: You may retest after 30 days upon<br />

approval of the SFCC Testing Coordinator.<br />

3. Notification of Test Results: You will receive<br />

notification of test results from the SFCC<br />

Testing Center. If you do not meet test score<br />

eligibility, you will not be permitted to register.<br />

C. Registration:<br />

1. The registrar is responsible for approving your<br />

registration form each term. You may register<br />

during the regular registration scheduled dates<br />

at any SFCC campus. (Registration conducted<br />

at the other SFCC locations must have approval<br />

of the registrar.)<br />

2. Parents or school officials must submit to the<br />

Registrar’s Office a list of courses you need to<br />

complete your high school education. You must<br />

be at the secondary level of education and must<br />

have a minimum of 3.0 GPA for college transfer<br />

course enrollment and 2.0 for technical course<br />

enrollment.<br />

3. Transcripts of high school, home school, and/or<br />

private school courses previously taken must<br />

be submitted to the SFCC Registrar’s Office for<br />

evaluation prior to registration.<br />

4. At the end of each year, an updated transcript<br />

must be submitted to the registrar prior to each<br />

fall term registration.<br />

5. Parents must submit a signed affidavit of Home<br />

Education Program approved by the county<br />

and/or a signed affidavit from private school<br />

administrators.<br />
