FFP 1301 FIRE HYDRAULICS AND WATER SUPPLY<br />
3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course is an overview of fi re characteristics, properties<br />
of water, apparatus and appliances. Emphasis on developing<br />
proper fi re streams using hydraulic calculations (theoretical<br />
and practical). Also covers drafting of water, velocity and<br />
discharge, friction loss, engine and nozzle pressure, pressure<br />
losses, municipal water supplies, standpipes and sprinklers,<br />
fl ow and pump testing and applications in fi re science.<br />
Prerequisite: Certifi ed Firefighter. (OA)<br />
FFP 1302 FIRE APPARATUS AND EQUIPMENT<br />
3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course covers the laws, rules and driving techniques<br />
for emergency vehicles, as well as a review of fi re service<br />
hydraulics. Fire-ground evolution and a driving course make<br />
up the practical part of the course. The evolution portion of<br />
the course includes the use of pre-connected lines, tandem<br />
pumping, drafting, relays and master streams. Prerequisite:<br />

FFP 1505 FIRE PREVENTION 3 crs. hrs.<br />
A study of fire inspections practices, including such items<br />
as purpose, definition, liability, authority, responsibility,<br />
organizational structure, fi re courses, fi re behavior, fl ame<br />
spread, inspection techniques, methods of conducting<br />
inspections, occupancy types, fi re load, Fire Prevention<br />
Bureau certifi cation. (OA)<br />
FFP 1540 PRIVATE FIRE PROTECTION I 3 cr. hrs.<br />
A study of private fire protection and detection systems, such<br />
as sprinkler and standpipe systems, chemical extinguishing<br />
systems, detection systems and devices. Each system<br />
is discussed as to its need, construction and preventive<br />
maintenance and individual use. (OA)<br />
FFP 1824 BASIC INCIDENT MANAGEMENT<br />
1 cr. hr.<br />
You will learn the principles and features of an incident<br />
command system and how it is organized, identify incident<br />
facilities and their purposes (such as but not limited to<br />
command post, staging area, bases, camps, and heliportshelispots),<br />
describe incident management resources such as<br />
strike teams, task forces, and single resources, and common<br />
responsibilities, such as communications and forms. (OA)<br />
FFP 1825 INTERMEDIATE INCIDENT MANAGEMENT<br />
1 cr. hr.<br />
You must be able to list and describe the duties of various<br />
positions within the incident command system, construct<br />
an incident management organization for a given incident<br />
or event, including appropriate procedures for establishing<br />
command, transferring command, and terminating an<br />
incident, demonstrate knowledge of efficient incident resource<br />
management including logistics, finance, administration, and<br />
recordkeeping, understand air operations, and demonstrate<br />
knowledge of incident planning processes. Prerequisite:<br />

FFP 1832 EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO TERRORISM<br />
1 cr. hr.<br />
This course includes the USFA’s NFA fi ve-level hazardous<br />
materials training model. These levels are awareness,<br />
operations, technician, specialist, and incident command.<br />
Occasionally, the material touches on operational and<br />
managerial issues. The course will introduce first responders<br />
to the consequences of emergency response to terrorism.<br />
The response to terrorism will include, in addition to<br />
this course, basic concepts for fi rst responders, tactical<br />
considerations, and incident management. The USFA’s<br />
response to terrorism training is consistent with the National<br />
Fire Protection Association’s Professional Qualifications 471,<br />
472, and 473. (OA)<br />
FFP 2111 FIRE CHEMISTRY 3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course is designed to address knowledge and skills<br />
pertaining to chemistry that will be useful to the hazardous<br />
materials technician. The course features forms of matter,<br />
energy, common substances, chemical formulas/structure,<br />
bonding of atoms, molecules, isotopes, chemical reactions,<br />
and physical effects of chemical exposure to victims.<br />
Particular emphasis is placed on how this knowledge can<br />
be effectively used at a hazardous materials incident. (OA)<br />
