EEC 1000 CHILD GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT<br />

A study of the growth and development of the child from<br />
pre-birth through age eight. This includes considerations<br />
of children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive<br />
development. Infl uences of health, safety, nutrition, and<br />
behavior of others on the child’s development are considered<br />
along with theories of development. (OA)<br />
EEC 1407 FACILITATING SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT<br />
3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course focuses on the social development and behavior<br />
of the young child. A child-centered philosophy utilizing<br />
positive guidance skills is presented with opportunities for<br />
practice and implementation. Further emphasis is placed<br />
on appropriate types of communication, limit setting, and<br />
classroom management, along with an investigation of<br />
play, self-esteem, stress, and pro-social skills among other<br />

EEC 1601 OBSERVING CHILDREN 3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course covers techniques for observing and recording<br />
the behavior of the young child from a developmental<br />
perspective. Emphasis is on the use of various types of<br />
informal measurements along with the appropriate use<br />
of standardized assessments is presented. Issues of<br />
professionalism including confidentiality, anti-bias, and ethical<br />
behavior are addressed. (OA)<br />
EEC 1941 PRACTICUM 3 cr. hrs.<br />
A minimum of 176 clock hours is spent in a selected<br />
supervised work experience in an approved child care<br />
facility. Practicum site, supervision, and objectives must be<br />
approved in advanced by the Child Development Program<br />
Director. Final grade will be based upon completion of<br />
training objectives, observation(s), along with the supervisors’<br />
evaluation and fi nal report. Prerequisites include two of the<br />
following: CHD 1104, EEC 1407, or EEC 1601. (OA)<br />
EEC 2002 PROGRAM MANAGEMENT 3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course emphasizes managing all available resources to<br />
ensure effective operation of a safe and effective child care<br />
center or family child care home. A systematic approach for<br />
planning, organizing, and record keeping is developed. Upon<br />
successful completion of the course, you will be prepared to<br />
administer programs for young children in public or private<br />
facilities. Prerequisites: EEC 2200 and EEC 2401. (OA)<br />
EEC 2200 PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM I 3 cr. hrs.<br />
A study of the principles and techniques for developing a<br />
program for young children, including curriculum design,<br />
materials, and equipment for learning activities. Emphasis<br />
is placed on identifi cation, selection, and application of<br />
activities, themes, and key concepts using an integrated<br />
approach. Prerequisites: EEC 1407 and EEC 1000. (OA)<br />
EEC 2202 PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM II 3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course focuses on exploring and understanding the value<br />
and purpose of creative experiences in the development of<br />
the young child’s creative abilities using art, music, dance,<br />
play and drama. The child’s acquisition of math and science<br />
concepts through discovery learning is examined. Emphasis<br />
is placed on presentation of activities through an integrated<br />
approach. Prerequisite: EEC 2200. (OA)<br />
EEC 2401 PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING 3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course covers methods for meeting the needs of parents<br />
and children using early child care and education facilities.<br />
You will survey the resources available in the community<br />
along with the procedures to link families in need with<br />
those services. Special emphasis is placed on nurturing the<br />
parent-child-teacher relationship and on maximizing parent<br />
involvement in their children’s lives at school. Prerequisites:<br />
EEC 1407, EEC 1601, and EEC 1000. (OA)<br />
EEC 2732 INFANTS, TODDLERS, AND CAREGIVERS<br />
3 cr. hrs.<br />
This course provides essential health care information<br />
that professionals use in caring for infants and toddlers.<br />
It also includes information to help care givers select and<br />
use curriculum appropriately in an individualized manner<br />
for each child in their care. You will learn to give special<br />
attention to the sequence of the development of children while<br />
recognizing differences in their rates of development. The<br />
holistic emphasis of this course focuses on curriculum which<br />
provides for the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and<br />
language development of infants and toddlers. Prerequisites:<br />
EEC 1601 and EEC 1000. (OA)<br />
EEC 2940 INTERNSHIP IN CHILD CARE 3 cr. hrs.<br />
In this class, your final internship, you will demonstrate active<br />
knowledge of the fi eld of early care and education and child<br />
care management. Application of this knowledge will be in<br />
an approved child care setting under a qualifi ed supervisor<br />
who works with the Child Development Program Director.<br />
The supervisor will rate your performance, knowledge and<br />
skills. The program director will conduct observation(s) of<br />
your teaching/management practices and evaluate your<br />
internship experience in consultation with the site supervisor.<br />
