ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE<br />
Program Code: 2070<br />
Description of Program: This A.A.S. degree program in<br />
Child Development and Education prepares you to work in the<br />
field of early childhood care and education, with emphasis on<br />
children from birth through age eight. Your job opportunities,<br />
once you graduate from the program, include preschool or<br />
voluntary pre-kindergarten teacher in public or private child<br />
care centers and family child care homes, child care center<br />
or family day care home director, early childhood education<br />
coordinator or resource aide, and elementary school<br />
instructional aide. In this program you will learn about child<br />
development; strategies for observing and assessing young<br />
children; parent involvement and communication; rules and<br />
regulations related to early childhood care and education;<br />
identifying child abuse and neglect; child safety, health and<br />
nutrition; classroom management; and staff development<br />
and program management.<br />
