The Highlands Campus Library is open from 7:45 a.m.<br />
to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 7:45 a.m. to 4<br />
p.m., Friday; and 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, excluding holidays.<br />
Special hours are posted as needed. Libraries at the<br />
DeSoto, Hardee, and Lake Placid sites are open when<br />
the campus or center is in operation.<br />
The Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) - Our staff<br />
welcomes you to the SFCC Tutoring and Learning Center<br />
(TLC). The personnel, state of the art equipment, and<br />
facilities support academic success by providing services<br />
to all currently enrolled students and to those students<br />
participating in approved programs.<br />
The TLC is located on the first floor of the Learning<br />
Resources Center (LRC), on the Highlands Campus. It<br />
consists of the Open Lab, Mathematics Lab, and Writing/<br />
English Lab.<br />
The TLC maintains daytime and evening hours, Monday<br />
through Friday. It is a welcoming place where you can study,<br />
check e-mail, use computer assisted modules, work with<br />
professional lab specialists and peer tutors, attend private<br />
tutoring sessions, receive assistance from mathematics,<br />
writing/English and reading faculty members, organize<br />
study groups, or just find a helping hand.<br />
This state-of-the-art facility has Internet accessible<br />
computers, diagnostic learning tools, and educational<br />
software that you can use at the TLC or, in some cases,<br />
at home. You can come to the TLC to finish homework,<br />
do Internet research, or improve your math, reading, and<br />
writing skills.<br />
The Open Lab is available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday<br />
through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. The<br />
Math Lab and Writing/English Lab have more flexible<br />
hours that change from term to term dependent on such<br />
variables as student usage, student demand for services<br />
and staffing availability. The operating hours are posted<br />
each term outside of the respective labs. Every effort is<br />
made to meet the current needs of our students in regards<br />
to these operating hours.<br />
SFCC also offers online tutoring to all students. To access<br />
this resource, please follow the steps below. For any<br />

1. Launch your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Safari,<br />
etc.);<br />
2. Go to http://www.smarthinking.com/;<br />
3. In the “Username” box, type your username (Panther<br />
Den online e-mail address) smithj@online.southflorida.<br />
edu; and<br />
4. In the “Password” box, type in your password (original<br />
default is: <strong>12</strong>34).<br />
eLearning - Located on the first floor of the LRC,<br />
eLearning is available to assist you in enhancing<br />
classroom presentations by helping you choose<br />
appropriate technology and assist in creating a variety<br />
of audio and visual materials, including video taping,<br />
computer graphics, and digital photography. Requests<br />
need to be made at least three weeks in advance, and you<br />
are charged only for the materials used. eLearning also can<br />
assist you with questions relating to SFCC student e-mail,<br />
online course resources, online tutoring and academic<br />
technology challenges.<br />
PANTHER ATHLETICS - SFCC offers intercollegiate athletic<br />
programs in women’s softball, women’s volleyball and<br />
men’s baseball. SFCC is an National Junior <strong>College</strong> Athletic<br />
Association (NJCAA) affiliate participating as a Division I<br />
community college in the Suncoast (<strong>South</strong>ern - Baseball)<br />
Conference of <strong>Florida</strong>. Athletic scholarships are offered in<br />
each of the college’s three sports.<br />
The home facilities for Panther Athletics are Panther Gym<br />
(volleyball) and Panther Field (baseball/softball). More<br />
information regarding Panther Athletics can be found on our<br />
SFCC Web site under “Athletics.”<br />
STUDENT ACTIVITIES - You may participate in a variety<br />
of college clubs and organizations, cultural events, games,<br />
intercollegiate athletics, and other programs. Many of these<br />
activities are supported by student activity fees. You are<br />
encouraged to participate in the college’s decision-making<br />
processes through active involvement in the Student<br />
Government Association (SGA) as either a representative<br />
from a club, academic division, or campus or as an SGA<br />
appointee to a college-wide committee such as: the<br />
curriculum committee, student judicial committee, or program<br />
advisory committee. Information about various activities can<br />
be found in the Student Handbook or from the SGA Office,<br />
or at any campus or center.<br />
SUPPORT SERVICES - SFCC provides a variety of support<br />
services designed to reinforce your academic skills. These<br />
services are further outlined in the Student Handbook which<br />
may be obtained from Student Services in Building B or at<br />
any campus or center.<br />
STUDENT RIGHTS AND CODE OF CONDUCT - Your<br />
student rights are ensured by Part 99 of Title 34 of the Code<br />
of Federal Regulations, the Family Educational Rights and<br />
Privacy Act (FERPA) and Section 1002.22 <strong>Florida</strong> Statutes.<br />
