RECOGNITION OF ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE - SFCC will<br />

recognize you for academic excellence during your course<br />

of study. You will be eligible for the following distinctions:<br />

President’s List - If you accumulate <strong>12</strong> or more credit<br />

hours and earn a GPA of 3.80 to 4.00, SFCC’s president<br />

will be send you a recognition letter.<br />

Vice President’s List - If you accumulate <strong>12</strong> or more<br />

credit hours and have a GPA of 3.50 to 3.79, SFCC’s vice<br />

president for educational and student services will send<br />

you a recognition letter.<br />

Graduation with Distinction - If you graduate with<br />

an excellent GPA in the A.A., A.S. and A.A.S. degree<br />

programs, you will receive recognition on your diploma<br />

according to the following GPAs:<br />

3.90 to 4.00 summa cum laude<br />

3.70 to 3.89 magna cum laude<br />

3.50 to 3.69 cum laude<br />

If you attended no other post-secondary institution other than<br />

SFCC, this GPA is based on the GPA earned at SFCC. If you<br />

attended at least one other post-secondary institution and<br />

earned 45 or more credits at SFCC, this GPA is based on<br />

the higher GPA earned at SFCC or the cumulative GPA from<br />

all institutions attempted. If you attended at least one other<br />

post-secondary institution and earned less than 45 credits<br />

at SFCC, this GPA is based on the cumulative GPA from all<br />

institutions attended.<br />

If you have fulfilled the requirements for a college credit<br />

certificate, occupational certificate, or adult high school<br />

diploma and achieved a 3.50 GPA or higher, you will graduate<br />

with distinction. Likewise, if you have earned a <strong>State</strong> of<br />

<strong>Florida</strong> High School Diploma with a score of 3100 or higher<br />

on the General Educational Development (GED) test, you<br />

will graduate with distinction.<br />

To be recognized with distinction at the graduation ceremony,<br />

you must have met all degree requirements by the end of<br />

spring term. The determining GPA will be based upon your<br />

fall term cumulative GPA.<br />

Honors Program - If you fulfill the requirements of the Honors<br />

Program, you will receive your degree of Associate in Arts<br />

degree with an Honors endorsement on your transcript and<br />

diploma, and special recognition at the graduation ceremony.<br />

Outstanding Student Awards are given annually. If you show<br />

leadership in scholastic achievements, student activities, and<br />

athletics, you may be eligible.<br />

The <strong>Florida</strong> Blue Key is awarded by the University of <strong>Florida</strong>.<br />

It is a community college leadership honor given to one<br />

outstanding female and male from each of <strong>Florida</strong>’s 28<br />

community colleges.<br />

Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society that<br />

recognizes and encourages scholarship among community<br />

college A.A., A.S. and A.A.S. degree-seeking students.<br />

SFCC’s chapter, Tau Epsilon, was founded in 1968. The<br />

organization provides an opportunity to develop leadership<br />

and service, promotes an intellectual climate for scholars, and<br />

fosters a continued interest in academic excellence. Eligible<br />

students must be currently enrolled in a college credit degree<br />

program and must have earned <strong>12</strong> or more college credit<br />

hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.<br />

COLLEGE HOURS - Regular college operations are<br />

conducted between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday<br />

through Thursday, and 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Friday. Except for<br />

special events, the college is closed to students and visitors<br />

during other hours. If you require access to college facilities<br />

at times other than normal working hours, you must advise<br />

Security, (863) 453-0806, of your location and expected<br />

time of departure. The college offers you a wide selection<br />

of college credit, adult, and occupational classes in the<br />

evening. These classes serve as an extension of the day<br />

program using the same textbooks, instructional procedures,<br />

instructors, and contact hours. The majority of your evening<br />

credit classes meet once a week during fall and spring terms<br />

and twice a week during summer terms. Classes are available<br />

evening and weekends. Consult your Schedule of Classes<br />

for evening and weekend offerings.<br />
