1) Content Description<br />

Provide a description of the module, as it will appear in the Module Directory <strong>and</strong> on the Student Information<br />

System (approx. 70-80 words).<br />

This module will examine the key concepts, debates, actors <strong>and</strong> processes within international public policy in the contemporary<br />

period. Concepts explored include cooperation, international law, globalisation <strong>and</strong> governance, <strong>and</strong> regionalism. The module<br />

will explore the role of various agents, including states, international organisations, regiobal organisations, private authorities<br />

<strong>and</strong> NGOs in the processes of international public policy-making. The course also examines these issues through a series of case<br />

studies, including climate change negotiations, the global financial crisis, human rights regimes, European policy-making <strong>and</strong> the<br />

International Criminal Court.<br />

2) Module Aims<br />

Specify the aims of the module, i.e. the broad educational purposes for offering this module.<br />

Through this module students will become acquainted with key concepts, agents <strong>and</strong> processes involved in international public<br />

policy. Through a series of case studies they will become familiar with the possibilities <strong>and</strong> problems of international public policy<br />

in the contemporary period. The module will provide students with the conceptual <strong>and</strong> empirical knowledge to allow them to<br />

critically assess processes of international public policy-making, <strong>and</strong> the conditions under which these processes can provide<br />

solutions to a range of global problems.
