Appendix D – Transfer from the LLM (Old Regulations)<br />

Appendix D should be read in conjunction with section 10 of the Detailed regulations.<br />

Registration for the LLM (Old Regulations) has now discontinued. The final effective date of registration for the<br />

LLM (Old Regulations) was 1 September 2004 with the final examinations in 2009.<br />

1.The following rules apply to students who are registered for the LLM (Old Regulations)(all registrations for<br />

the LLM (Old Regulations) have now expired)<br />

<strong>and</strong><br />

whose first period of registration has ceased<br />

or<br />

whose registration has been terminated within three years of their application to register for the LLM,<br />

Postgraduate Diploma in Laws <strong>and</strong> the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws.<br />

All other applications to register will be considered on an individual basis <strong>and</strong> at the discretion of the<br />

University.<br />

2.Students who are transferring to, or enrolling for, the LLM, Postgraduate Diploma in Laws or Postgraduate<br />

Certificate in Laws will receive credit for subjects previously passed as indicated in this Appendix. One subject<br />

is the equivalent to four modules. Students may be awarded credit for courses which are not available on the<br />

LLM, Postgraduate Diploma in Laws <strong>and</strong> Postgraduate Certificate in Laws <strong>and</strong> are therefore not listed in<br />

Appendix A.<br />

3. Any ‘Fail’ results received by students whilst registered for the LLM (Old Regulations), <strong>and</strong> the number of<br />

attempts previously made, will not be carried forward on transfer/enrolment.<br />

4. Students who have passed one subject whilst registered for the LLM (Old Regulations) will be permitted to<br />

transfer/enrol for the LLM, Postgraduate Diploma in Laws <strong>and</strong> Postgraduate Certificate in Laws.<br />

5. Students who have passed two subjects whilst registered for the LLM (Old Regulations) will be permitted to<br />

transfer/enrol for the LLM <strong>and</strong> Postgraduate Diploma in Laws. Students will not be permitted to transfer/enrol<br />

for the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws.<br />

6. Students who have passed three subjects whilst registered for the LLM (Old Regulations) will be permitted<br />

to transfer/enrol for the LLM only. Students will not be permitted to transfer/enrol for the Postgraduate<br />

Certificate in Laws or the Postgraduate Diploma in Laws.<br />

7. Students who have passed all four subjects under the LLM (Old Regulations) are governed by the LLM<br />

(Old Regulations). They will not be permitted to transfer to the Postgraduate Laws Programme under any<br />

circumstances. However, they may apply to register afresh for the Postgraduate Laws Programme.<br />

8. Students transferring/enrolling for the Postgraduate Diploma in Laws or the LLM, under these<br />

circumstances, will not be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws <strong>and</strong>/or the Postgraduate Diploma in<br />

Laws for subjects previously passed on the LLM (Old Regulations).<br />

9. Applications to transfer to, or enrol for, the LLM, the Postgraduate Diploma in Laws or the Postgraduate<br />

Certificate in Laws, from all other students previously registered for the LLM (Old Regulations) will be<br />

considered on an individual basis <strong>and</strong> at the discretion of the University.<br />

10. The name of all previously passed subjects for which credit is given will appear on the student’s transcript.<br />

The mark obtained at the examination at which the subject was passed will count towards the student’s<br />

award.<br />

11. Students receiving credit for subjects previously passed on the LLM (Old Regulations) will be informed<br />

whether the credits awarded can contribute towards a particular specialisation or specialisations. Students<br />

carrying credit for subjects that are not available on the LLM, the Postgraduate Diploma in Laws <strong>and</strong> the<br />

Postgraduate Certificate in Laws may be unable to have a particular specialisation named on the final<br />

certificate for the award.<br />

12. Students who receive credit for subjects previously passed will not be permitted to enter the examination<br />

again for that subject(s).<br />
