2.10 (GR)<br />

Registration of an applicant who has previously received a University of London award, or whose registration<br />

with the University was terminated due to exhausting the permitted number of attempts at an examination, for<br />

a programme of study in the same subject or field of study, is at the discretion of the University <strong>and</strong> may<br />

not be permitted for all programmes. All applications will be considered on an individual basis.<br />

2.11(GR)<br />

It is at the University’s discretion to determine whether a student who registers again for an award under<br />

paragraph 2.11 can receive credit for any modules previously passed.<br />

2.12 (GR)<br />

A student who receives credit for subjects previously passed will not be permitted to re-enter the examination<br />

for those modules.<br />

2.13 (GR)<br />

A student who is permitted to register again will be required to pay a new registration fee. The student will<br />

receive a new maximum period of registration.<br />

3 Assessment<br />

Regulations 3.11, 3.29, 3.31, 3.32, 3.33 <strong>and</strong> 3.34 do not apply to the Postgraduate Laws programme.<br />

3.1 (GR)<br />

See the Important Information for information on changing regulations.<br />

An examination is governed by the regulations in force at the time of the examination <strong>and</strong> not at the time that<br />

a student was initially registered or first attempted the examination concerned, except where the conditions for<br />

changing regulations with notice apply.<br />

3.2 (GR)<br />

A student may choose whether or not to be formally assessed in the individual modules for which they are<br />

registered. Students who choose to be formally assessed will be examined to the same st<strong>and</strong>ard as that<br />

required by students registered for the related degree, diploma or certificate.<br />

3.3 (GR)<br />

Credit bearing individual modules will be assessed using the forms of assessment associated with the<br />

appropriate level of study.<br />

3.4 (GR)<br />

A student sitting an examination must comply with the rules given in the Notice to C<strong>and</strong>idates, which<br />

accompanies the Admission Notice in addition to those given in this Section <strong>and</strong> in Sections 5 <strong>and</strong> 6.<br />

3.5 (GR)<br />

All examinations will be based on the syllabuses that are current for the year of the examination concerned. A<br />

student must ensure that they have studied the correct syllabuses.<br />

3.6<br />

Each module studied on a st<strong>and</strong>-alone basis will be assessed by one 45 minute unseen written paper<br />

examination with the exception of modules in the field of Jurisprudence <strong>and</strong> legal theory.<br />

3.7<br />

Modules in the field of Jurisprudence <strong>and</strong> legal theory - (Modern legal theory [LWM7AB] <strong>and</strong> Liberty,<br />

equality <strong>and</strong> law [LWM7CD]) - count as a double module. Each will be assessed by one 90 minute unseen<br />

written paper examination.<br />

3.8<br />

In all papers, questions may be set on developments within the scope of the syllabus up to 1 January in the<br />

year of the examination.<br />

3.9 (GR)<br />

Where necessary, Examiners may change the format or rubric of a written paper examination, from that of the<br />

previous year, without giving prior notice to students.<br />
