Students with specific access requirements should refer to section 10 of the Detailed regulations for the<br />
provision of individual modules.<br />
An applicant must satisfy the relevant entrance requirements given in this Section. In order to be considered<br />
for registration for individual modules, applicants must also submit an application that is in accordance with<br />
the procedures <strong>and</strong> deadlines set out in the appropriate prospectus.<br />
In addition, an applicant must have at least one of the following:<br />
At least two years’ study at a university (or equivalent institute) acceptable to the University <strong>and</strong> at a<br />
level considered appropriate by the University.<br />
Or<br />
At least five years relevant work experience, such as accounting, banking, finance, insurance, law or<br />
policing.<br />
All applications will be considered on an individual basis <strong>and</strong> entry will be at the discretion of the University.<br />
If an applicant does not satisfy these entrance requirements, the University may still consider the application<br />
but will require evidence of the applicant’s ability to undertake an advanced course of study.<br />
English language proficiency<br />
For awards at FHEQ level 7, applicants must have an advanced level of ability to work in English. Applicants<br />
whose first language is not English must provide satisfactory evidence showing that they have passed within<br />
the previous three years a test of proficiency in English at the following minimum level:<br />
IELTS with an overall grade of at least 6.5 with a minimum of 6 in each sub test; or<br />
TOEFL with a score of 600, or 250 on the computerised test plus a Test of Written English (TWE) of<br />
at least 4.5, or 100 on the iBT (internet-based Test); or<br />
a test of proficiency in English language from the prescribed list published by the University.<br />
An applicant may be considered for admission to the LLM, Postgraduate Diploma in Laws or Postgraduate<br />
Certificate in Laws who alternatively submits evidence of:<br />
Substantial education (minimum of eighteen months) conducted <strong>and</strong> assessed in English;<br />
Or<br />
Substantial work experience (minimum of eighteen months) conducted in English.<br />

Where an applicant does not meet the prescribed English language proficiency requirements but believes that<br />
they can demonstrate the requisite proficiency for admission, the University may, at its discretion, consider the<br />
application.<br />
In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who does not satisfy the foregoing requirements may be permitted<br />
to enrol for the LLM, Postgraduate Diploma in Laws or the Postgraduate Certificate in Laws if the University is<br />
satisfied that by reason or his or her background, experience <strong>and</strong> professional qualifications (if any) the<br />
applicant is fit to follow the course of study.<br />
